DI cuts both ways. On one hand you have slightly better efficiency and power because of better control of the spray, on the other you have to come up with a way to deal with the carbon on the valves or resign yourself to regular cleaning bills. One automaker (I forget who) kept using injectors in the regular location with DI engines... a little shot of fuel from the port injectors every so often kept things clean. Or so I heard.

IMO, if the torque band can get broadened it will be a huge help. 260 lb-ft. only appearing at over 4000RPM was a major oversight for a vehicle like this. Mated to the Mercedes W5A580 transmission (2011-2012) it really meant the thing can be caught flat-footed pretty easily. The 8 speed really helped with this (according to the numbers), but if they can broaden that torque curve and boost the amount available below 3000RPM, it will make the V-6 a more palatable option. Heck, it might even help fuel economy even more than the EPA numbers reflect since drivers won't feel the need to wring that little six pot's neck in order to get moving in a hurry.
