Car Wash - Swirls on rims

So I got my first car wash today and noticed that there were swirls marks all over my black rims. Has anyone else experienced this with their altitude after a car wash and is this normal for black gloss rims ?

I am very upset !!! hand car washes are more pricey in NYC.

NEVER use car washes with brushes etc. Your paint looks the same now.

Re: Car Wash - Swirls on rims

When it's above 30*, I hand wash. I've washed mine 3 times so far, all by hand, at a local carwash. I bring a wash bucket, mitt and my own soap. I spray it down with the soapy wand first, use my own wash bucket and then run a rinse cycle. When it gets below 30*, I'll take it a touchless car wash, I think. Just have to research how "touchless" it really is first.

Re: Car Wash - Swirls on rims

Touchless only for my Jeep!
Too many swirls and other issues no matter how 'paint friendly' they claim to be.

During MN winters I always try to go through one with the undercarriage spray system to ensure I get as much salt off as possible.

I see fairly new cars here in the Twin Cities with pinpoint rust spots starting or rust at the fender lines and I'm convinced it's because they don't take the time to run the car through a car wash at least once every 2 weeks during the winter/salt months.

When they are finished washing your Jeep, please send them over to wash mine.

Don't they still have "Do It Yourself" car washes?

2 years old in dec. and NEVER been to a car wash! always do it my self, even though the neighbors think I'm a little nuts when the wind is blowing and the temp. is 30 degrees and I'm bundled up in a wool hat, parka and gloves washing the jeep! I can do it in my yard, but I see you're in NYC and may not have a place to wash it your self. spend the extra few bucks, and use a hand wash it's well worth it.

Yes, but they usually have signs indicating hand/bucket washing is not allowed so you have to go there when there is nobody else around to complain. Handwashing is the only way to get everything clean like the area under the rear license plate brow, along some of the body lines, and around the badges.

Re: Car Wash - Swirls on rims

Drive it though a touchless underbelly wash. Then, drive it home into your garage, and do an Optimum No Rinse (or alternative 'no-rinse') wash.

LOL, been meaning to get me one of those. The only problem is my Social Security and pension don't stretch far enough to pay for one.
