About one week after my recall was done, I had all the ceiling lights (front and rear) stop working. Jeep had it all day to eventually find there was a pinched wire that eventually shorted some time after they did this work.
Thanks for pointing this out. I need to re-read that recall notice. I did not want anyone screwing with the headliner anyhow so I have put this recall off. Now I may not get it done at all.

Re: Caught On Fire

Initially, they were pushing this recall more for vehicles that had ANY service work that involved the sun visor or dropping the headliner to gain access to things. That would increase the odds of wiring getting pinched and a possible short and fire as a result.

After a while I think Chrysler realized that this was far more serious than originally thought and then they started pushing this regardless of whether you had any prior service work done to these areas.

I've been refusing to have this done up to this point but I decided it just isn't worth the risk any more so it's going in for this recall repair next Tuesday.

This is a good idea.

There's no way I'm getting this recall done, UNLESS I need the headliner fixed, in which case, I'll have a dealer do it then. Am I missing something, or is it just that simple?

Obviously I agree. Please share your dealer experiences (as applicable) in the "Choosing which recalls to apply" thread.

Re: Caught On Fire

When all you see is smoke and flames and you don't know exactly where it's coming from (the sun visor was closed at the time) and your in panic mode, yeah you're gonna use a fire extinguisher. But you guys want to criticize how I put out the fire?

Wow. Should never of posted.

"Sun visor wiring spacers will be installed on all vehicles to reroute sun visor wiring to prevent wiring damage during any future service procedures"

Re: Caught On Fire

If you get a recall notice, ignore it, and then get a fire; chances are your warranty is not going to apply anymore (neither Jeep's nor the insurance on the car). Just sayin.

Yep. Conversely, if we get a "repair" of the nonexistent fire risk that causes the very fire it was supposed to prevent, we have to get a lawyer to deal with the insurance companies, dealership, and Chrysler all pointing fingers at each other. Just sayin.

Pick your poison.

Not to mention being "made whole" after "fire-ony" will be based on the depreciated value of the vehicle. So, what, $10+k plus lawyer fees on a one-year old vehicle? Or did you think people are getting a brand new replacement Jeep out of the deal for zero out of pocket cost?

How about no.

When was the last time you received a recall notice via certified mail? Please prove that I received it.

Right. Making stuff up is fun.

Easy, killer. I don't think anyone was truly criticizing your method of extinguishing the fire. I'd prefer to call it 20/20 hindsight. There's always a better way of doing something after it's already been done. You were helping a friend and did a great job of putting out the fire; no one is hatin', homie.
