Anyway, I just did this on the weekend while board at a horse show.

That is a very nice set-up! You are right about the current outlet as I am using it generally for my Ipod and this is why I prefer the center console. I am not particularly handy with the panels but will try for something similar.

I also found out that there is plenty of space to tuck the wires under the roof/windows lining.

ah- that's how you did it! Very nice. How were you able to tuck the wires through the back of the cubby to the cam?

I have the same in mine, it is where the wires for my brake controller go through. I tried for about 30 seconds to see if I could use that as well, but it was hot as hell and I couldn't be bothered doing anything that required actual thought or effort.
I would prefer to use it as the section where it comes out from under the cup holder was causing a kink in the wire where I had in from the other side. I do think it is better off how I have it now. I will check in in a few weeks time to see if it is getting clamped in it;s current position.

Is that one of the BlackVue DR series? I'm planning on getting the DR650GW-2CH and was wondering how you like the one you have.
This is a DR650GW-2CH, hence the two wires from the front camera
You can see more pics and details in this thread - Dash Cams - Down Under

While not the vest moving image, you can still get rego details if required as per this still taking from a rear end crash that happened to someone a few days ago.

It is nice and neat, the actual image quality is not the greatest due to the low bit rate. But ultimately I am happy with it. The WiFi connection to the phone app is very cool, and helps when setting up the angle. I like that it takes up very little room and is set and forget.

There is a ton of space under the centre console area, next to where your knee would rest, that is where I have my excess.

The same way SNUKE got it up there...and lots of space to hide the extra...pass the connector through the hole you drill, then go plug it to your CAM, then start hiding from the CAM down back to the back of the cubby. Done deal and everyone is happy! Cheers...

You could also tap from the mirror, but then, you would need a small 12v to 5V inline converter from eBay… if you look at my picture, you will see that my redline radar detector is tapped in directly into my mirror console. Made myself a connector and cable…for $3.00, At first I wanted to hook up the dash cam there as well, but the freaking converter took forever to get here, so finally opted the other way …but if you decide to go that route, let me know, I will send you a link for the converter…if I remember it’s like 6 or 7$ shipped…

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

Hey guys, I know this is a little off topic but I am considering installing a CB in the same cubby (on the shelf above the media center) alot of you took your power from for your radar detectors. I have measured back there as best I can and it looks like a small CB I found with fit (Uniden PRO520XL). It is 4-1/2” W x 6-3/4” D x 1-3/8” H. Now the only measurement I see a potential problem with is the depth of 6-3/4". I think it will fit but either the door won't close or I might have to remove it completely (no big deal). But my Dad had a thought and suggested I might be able to cut out the back of the cubby on the shelf portion and push the CB partially back in there and maybe even have the face of the CB flush with the media center. My question is, when you took it apart, how much space was back there? Do you think I could do what I am thinking?

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

The 12v receptacle sticks out into the cubby so you won't have the depth you need. I just pushed my CB in as far as I could and didn't worry about closing the cubby's cover.

Is the cubby on a 2013 the same as on my 2015? Also I saw that you have the 680 which is bigger than the one I ordered. I am actually hoping to put the CB on top of the "shelf" created by the 12v receptacle and the rest of the media hub.

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

JM I'm pretty sure your cb is too thick to fit above the receptacle. Let us know.

Well, I hope not. I did measure the height from the top of the shelf to the roof of the cubby with a fabric measuring tape and I came up with roughly 1-3/4" and the CB is only 1-3/8". I will try it out this weekend when the CB shows up and report back.

Oops! I meant the cb might be too long and the cubby too shallow because of the 12v receptacle in the rear of the cubby. Sorry for the mistake on my part. Hope I'm wrong.
