Center Console Electrical Outlet

Since I got this Jeep, I love the fact that there are 3 very handy 12 V sockets available for multiple uses. I am in the process of installing a dash cam and find that the the center console is the most discreet location as a power source. I have seen some pretty near to clean installations on the GC. I understand that both the front and rear power outlets are designated as 'key' operated which means they are powered only when the car's ignition is on. The rear outlet can also be switched apparently to be powered all the time by the battery according to the manual. My question is this: is there any way to switch the center console to be powered only when the ignition is on- in other ways in key mode? This will make it easier as I don't have to remind myself to turn off the cam, or buy a battery drain preventer. Thanks.

My dash cam is wired to the front power outlet, not sure that you can power key only the centre one...maybe others can chime in on this one.

I punched a small hole at the bottom of the front cubby and wired to the top next to the rear view mirror...no wires showing and works perfectly for me...

I also tapped the Front One for Radar detector. It's Very easy to get at.
The Side panel pops off and if you can get to one you can get to the other very easy.

What side panel are you referring to? I'm really surprised that they aren't putting a USB outlet on top the dash yet, in any vehicle.

Or perhaps into the 'A' pillar would be to have it there one each side

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

I can imagine the OP has a use for the current outlet in the media cubby and that is why they are wanting to use the one under the arm rest. If not, then I am perplexed why you want to use that one.

I had mine coming from the right hand side (drivers in Aus) and decided to take it over to the left hand side, well just because no good reason. There was no issue running on the drivers side above the pedals.
Anyway, I just did this on the weekend while board at a horse show.

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

Nice post SNUKE, went by the same route, just did not go through the console...punched a small hole in the back of the media cubby. I have another cable I wanted to push there as well...and also was worried that the door would not close well if I went the console route...which I guess my assumptions were wrong!

Did you remove the media cubby or is it safe to make a small hole with a delicate hand?

Re: Center Console Electrical Outlet

I know that upper right corner is safe, you can slip your hand behind and feel for yourself...go by the passenger’s side. you'll see that you have lots of room to drill, obviously, be cautious...

Thanks for all of these pictures SNUKE!

Is that one of the BlackVue DR series? I'm planning on getting the DR650GW-2CH and was wondering how you like the one you have.
