Re: Changes for 2012

8-sp may not happen until 2013 model year, and on the V6 only. 8-sp added to Hemi in 2014MY. Also, next gen radios for 2013MY as well as an all-new Bus system (faster with more bandwidth).

Re: Changes for 2012

Major design changes have been made to the GC every 6 years since 1993. If you look back 93 to 98 had quite a few changes, but the basic design was still the same. The changes from 99 to 04 were not as noticeable. And 05 to 2010 hardly changed at all. So if they stick with that timetable, your good till 2016. There is something new in the mix now, Fiat. Diamler didn't do well with Chrysler and Cerberus Capital Management wasn't any better, so now it's Fiat's turn.

Damn 2014?!?! It's going to be the 545RFE until then? That is a pretty big disappointment.

Are you being serious Milous? Unlike the rest of us, you can't make stuff up... No 8-sp in the Hemi next year? That does make me feel better about getting a 2011.

I hope your wrong on the 8-sp V6... I'm hoping for a 2012 release date on that... it's the only reason I didn't get a 2011 Overland.

The 8spd might not be ready until the 2014 model year given that the plant in Indiana is set to be retooled for the ZF 8H trans. That plant retooling isn't scheduled for completion and production ramp-up until sometime in 2013. That said, it doesn't preclude Chrysler from importing the 8spd trans from ZF in the interim. Given the split off from Mercedes (who makes the W5A580 5spd for the V6) and that the W5A580 is supposedly EOL, the 8spd from ZF may indeed be seen for the 2012. The 8spd has a very short first gear that should liven up the V6 off the line in a big way.

Re: Changes for 2012

I doubt they'll be changing any styling that requires different body panels in the near future. At the most, styling changes will be just changes to trim. In Jeeps case, that probably means future models will have either more or less chrome.

I say if you like it, buy it, enjoy it. Waiting around for rumors to come true is a waste in my opinion.

According to normally reliable press reports, including the Detroit News, Chrysler has scheduled the 8-speed for various of its new/revised V6 models starting in coming months. Something really fishy is going on either with press reports or with how Chrysler is handling the GC.

Agree...and I did state that they might import it until production can occur here in the new plant in 2013. If the reliable news reports are stating it is coming soon in a few months then what Chrysler is doing is being quiet about it to clear out the inventory of 5spd units.

ZF makes good stuff, but there's NOTHING wrong with the W5A580 transmission for the 3.6 V6 and a powertrain engineer friend of mine once referred to it as a "bulletproof" design. I'm unsure about the 54RFE given that the even the SRT8 6.1 used the W5A580 instead of the 54RFE. Maybe they'll make the 8spd an option at first to help deplete the 5spd units before making the 8spd standard? That would be good marketing, IMHO.
