I think Jeep may just be getting ahead of the power curve and possibly making all of this standard from '15 on...

... but there's scary prospects of where this is all headed:

NHTSA May Mandate That New Cars Broadcast Location, Direction and Speed | CNS News

I doubt they make these options standard anytime soon. Right now vehicle manufactures are making profits from these "safety packages".

What I find amusing is that our government appears to have been using any possible means of gathering data without any concern whatsoever for the rights of citizens and whether that collection was legal and we're supposed to believe they are not going to tap into carnet?

...But so much for that logic, now the NHTSA knows you trespassed on private or government property to experience your Jeep 4x4s capabilities this weekend.

Your fine will be in your mailbox when you get home... If they let you get home.

These hyper-reactionary responses tickle me. Those here who are so afraid of their government right now have obviously never experienced an actually oppressive one. Does one need to be careful and carefully weigh pros and cons with any part of government? Sure. But all this fear mongering and reacting like you live in an actual oppressive state is ridiculous. Otherwise, you wouldn't even be talking about it. Stop being histrionic.

More amusing are the statements about how now you'll be caught. Doing illegal things. Boo hoo. I don't think anybody's intention behind freedom was the ability to get away with doing harm or wrong.

Can we go back to talking about Jeeps? Please? I mean hell, I'm doing it too but I swear every single discussion about anything somehow morphs into some kind of extremist political rant these days.

The Jews had a 'look the other way' approach, and it worked out well for them, right?

...right?

lol the only thing extremist I'm seeing is your response. You are however correct, this has no place here and for my part I'm done. Apologies.

Jeeps. Okay? Jeeps.

I'm as guilty as anyone of getting into these kinds of discussions in the wrong places. But let's agree that nobody has changed anybody's view or mind demonstrably through forum posts. It's a pointless exercise in these environments.

Just like you can get buttons and knobs instead of a touchscreen? How about getting higher option levels for functional items like engine and suspension, but without a sunroof, leather interior, and wood trim?

On a slightly different note, I have to ask what's so important about an electronic parking brake? I always set the parking brake, I've owned cars with a foot pedal and with the lever in the center, and I've driven a few loaner/rental cars with electronic parking brake switches in the center console. To me, the parking brake is like the cupholders - I only notice them if they're unusually bad in some way. Am I missing something really big because I haven't used them enough, or is it just about "keeping up with the Joneses"?
