Road trips will be pretty darn miserable to the people in the 2nd and 3rd row. My in laws have a journey that has a third row. Fine for around town sometimes but it leaves zero space behind it so everything has to be carried on laps and the 2nd row is cramled because it has to be moved up to give the third row some sort of room and no matter what the third row is never comfortable.

Injuries have included amputations below the knee on site to get two adults out of the rear seat on a 2014 MDX. Yep Thanksgivings and family get togethers spawn interesting conversations in my family. Brother in law is a battalion chief at one DC areas airports and SIL is a vet. I almost curled up into fetal position when she described neutering a poor dog.

You could always rent a minivan or Tahoe.
haha, I guess the Partridge family really made an impression on you growing up

Yep, 3rd row only for around town when we're with other people. In between cities the back is packed with luggage

Re: Changes for 2015?

One of the biggest reasons that we even considered the Grand Cherokee was that it did not have a third row, yet is a bit larger than other four or five seat SUVs or small "crossovers". We also considered the Audi Q5, BMW X5, and Porsche Cayenne. The Grand Cherokee matches them in features, isn't far off in build quality and performance, and crushes them in terms of value. Having also owned German cars, I know the Grand Cherokee will be less expensive to keep.

We have one child and a large dog (Ausie/golden mix), and the Grand Cherokee is the perfect size. This segment was pretty much abandoned by the other US manufacturers who seem to have all decided that everyone wants a third row or a small SUV. Had we wanted a third row, the Durango, GMC Acadia or Ford Explorer would have been on the short list.

Remember that the Durango and Grand Cherokee are built on the same platform, at the same plant, with the same suspension, drivetrains, same options, same colors, etc. The Grand Cherokee just has some more options and more capable off road system. If you can't warm up to the styling, well, hold out for the Grand Wagoneer. Had we needed/wanted the extra room, I think we very well might have ended up with a Durango in the garage.

So, when IS that Grand Wagoneer coming out? They sure have done a good job of keeping it hidden if it is going to be soon.

As much as I dislike Chevy, the 15 Tahoe is very nice.

It sounds like a good idea in theory. But believe me, on those six days you will probably just end up taking two cars. The hassle of putting the seat up, wedging someone in the backseat will be too annoying to deal with. I bought the Commander for the same reason, but I have used that seat once in 6.5 years.

One solution is to wait until you get where you are going to tell them what's on your mind. Instead of talking, enjoy the scenery.

Funny guy!

But seriously, having to give people directions, changing plans, all that stuff can be avoided with using one vehicle

Re: Changes for 2015?

But can I get fake woodgrain vinyl on the sides in either walnut or rock maple???? Than I can mount 37" tires with spinners and hang fuzzy dice from the mirror.

Re: Changes for 2015?

Put a bra on that Durango front end and you won't have to look at the ugly part.

I bought a Mercury Mountaineer in 2000 because I liked the looks. I learned to regret that decision. So in 2008 I bought what I felt would really fit our needs best (Toyota Highlander) despite the fact that I didn't like its looks. It has been a very good vehicle and I have gotten over the appearance issue. Frankly, the GC's looks don't set me on fire... it's just ok... but I want it for what it can do.
