Exactly -- loveracing is 100% correct. The current 9 speed cannot fit in the Grand Cherokee because it is a front-transverse transmission. It will not work on a rear wheel drive chassis like the GC. Besides the fact it couldn't handle the V8 or the diesel's torque.

Re: Changes for 2015?

The soonest they likely would even consider a "different" transmission type/orientation would be with the next full platform refresh which hits the street in about 2017. There also would be diminishing returns between an 8 speed and a 9 speed that likely wouldn't cost justify changing (again) in the current platform generation even if there was a 9 speed available in the "correct" format for the vehicle.

Exactly, from the reviews for the cherokee people dont see 9th gear until 75 to 80 mph. If they put it in the heavier grand cherokee (assuming a rwd configuration was available) it would be about the same way unless you stepped up to the diesel or hemi. The V6 that is in a majority of wk2's sold wouldn't benifit from a 9 speed configured lije the one in the cherokee. ZF has already said 10 speeds is pretty much the limit for gains.

Re: Changes for 2015?

If there was one option I would really love to see that the Summit does not have now, it would be surround view. I test drove a few other cars (BMW X5, Mercedes ML 350, and a whole bunch more) before deciding on the Jeep. One thing I liked that a few of them had was the surround view cameras. Some had cameras mounted on the bottom of the mirrors, the front corners of the bumper facing out on an angle, the front facing forward and the rear camera. It was really cool having these. For one, you could park perfectly every time. I usually let my front wheel touch the curb and then turn straight so I can park close but not too close when parallel parking. Cameras eliminated that by giving you an overhead view of the entire car (it was simulated overhead but it worked). Another cool feature was great for when you have to pull into heavy traffic but there is a vehicle or something else blocking your view. The cameras on the front corners allowed me to see past the blind spot to let me know if it was clear. Awesome feature and would love to see it come to Jeep.

I have a '13 Sprinter based RV with the side view cameras that come on when you use the turn signals. However the screen view is impossible with too much glare. Put an anti-glare screen on but unable to use the screen touch features! The GC side Warner's work just fine.

How did we ever make it all these years without all those cameras giving us views of the road?? Next we will have a big ole aerodynamic satellite dish on the roof also so we don't miss any of our favorite episodes of chasing classic cars.

That's coming on the 2022 model as well as new movement seeking lasers that blast off dirt and grime before they have a chance to get on your vehicle.

Back in the day they didn't have the technology to put in cameras and screens, so car manufacturers had to design cars so that you could see out of them. Now they can do things like make the back window so small that the driver can't see to back up, and then tack on a charge for an optional backup camera. Obviously, the next logical step is to obstruct all of the windows and then charge for cameras to view the road, traffic lights, street signs, and drive-through menus.
