I concede that Chrysler MAY have to modify it (or get ZF to do so) to suit the GC weight/torque issues, but history shows it can be done, as it did with the 8spd, which they also said couldn't cope with the torque of the GC (to be clear my research was focused on the SRT with the 6.4 Hemi, so much more torque than the V6).

As for opting for the 5spd in the Ram, why would you choose to go backwards? I understand some folks don't like progress, or some are afraid of new technology and that's great for the used car market. As I said we don't have the Ram here in Aust, but I would expect you cant buy a new Ram in the US with a 5spd anymore?
They put all of their eggs in the 8 speed basket. It will be the trans of choice for a whike until their investment pays off. They can't just up and change to the 9 speed as they have a lot of money invested into the 8 speed line.
As for people going for the 5 speed over the 8 speed, people are afraid of change. I like the feeling and operation of the 5 speed in everyday driving but towing the 8 speed is so far ahead capability wise it isn't even a comparison.

Ooof! The 2015 refresh for the VW looks too much like an allroad for my tastes. The Touareg was the alternate when I picked the 2012 Overland instead. For the $, the JCG was a much better value. Now it's time to get a replacement for my '12 and I thought I'd look at the Touareg again, now I don't know what else to compare the "mythical" 2015 JGC to.

I hate being patient for news about trim levels and color options...

Re: Changes for 2015?

The new vw touareg looks pretty plain to me. Not a vehicle I'd choose over the jeep from a looks standpoint.

Back to the topic, can history guide us? How long after order banks close does jeep usually release info about the upcoming model, anyone know?

Re: Changes for 2015?

Agree with Corp Cog. Did extensive test drive of diesel Touareg, ML, and GC 4X4 (Summit and Overland). GC best economy (31+ mpg @ 62mph) and is the best value out there. Summit's HK sound system is ultimate differentiator. Since I don't enjoy being totally wrapped in chocolate or black, if an Overland Brown/Light Frost had the HK I'd already be driving a new GC. But alas, since Gilles said the Summit will add a light interior I have to wait, which I hate.

Marlon's comment about not being told what to build is a tad concerning. Having experience at exec. levels in a corp. when one sees an organization as highly matrixed as Chrysler it is obvious no one but the CEO is really in charge of anything. Decisions become political and don't get made until CEO decides. But Sergio changes his mind a lot. (minivan is Dodge, no Chrysler, no both, no its .... etc etc.), The result is chaos. The Dart and Cherokee roll outs spoke volumes about what is going on in Auburn Hills. Milous, if these guys don't know all the colors and configurations 6 weeks before the order books are open it is time to sell your stock. Good news is the Jeep brand is the most valuable asset they have, so it will survive.

Meanwhile 2015 Touareg has been announced, colors and all, and 2015 ML with new big screen on the dash is showing up all over and is coming soon. The competition isn't standing still.

Wow. That's sorta an angry post. Perhaps the company wants to keep things a secret until they formally announce the new 2015. Apple does this all the time so why not Jeep?

Where were their 14's in January of '13 when the '14 JGCs were starting to roll off the line?

Re: Changes for 2015?

More frustration than anything. Big fan of Chrysler especially Jeep. Want to see them succeed with a customer orientation much like they had in the 90's. Ralph Gilles was absolutely great in personally replying to letter regarding Summit interior choices. He admitted it was a problem that many people had brought to their attention. Explained the issues they faced, that they had solved them and said solution would be introduced in the "very near future". Ended with "enjoy you new car". Wow! Done deal! Great!!

That was months ago. Just disappointed with apparent lack of follow through and non response to simple question;"Is it 2014 or 2015?" Tired of waiting. Want to enjoy a new GC Summit.

Who is Ralph Giles and why would he know anything?

Re: Changes for 2015?

Ralph works for Chrysler. He helps design jeeps and vipers from what I understand.

He is one of the people who would know what's going on I'd think.

Re: Changes for 2015?

Well anyone who thought Jeep would introduce new interior colors for 2014 in the last few months of production is delusional. Wait for 2015.

Re: Changes for 2015?

I think new interior colors are possible. But probably not much more than that. I'd bet anything the 15's are very much like the 14's with less bugs. But who knows....

Since they usually add things as a model progresses through the years, they just might add some bugs just to keep people talking about Jeep.
