You may have taken what I said a wee bit too seriously.

What I meant by that, and I'm gonna make this as simple as possible...

Build specs weren't coming in from HQ.

That's all. So The Lineฎ was down for a little bit while they rebooted the system.

Everything is electronic here at Chrysler. Everybody has a computer. Even I do. (I hate mine though... we need Macs...)

Re: Changes for 2015?

Ralph Gilles is Senior VP for Product Design for all Chrysler vehicles and is also the President and CEO- SRT Brand and Motorsports. Reports directly to CEO Sergio. So yes he ought to know what is going on. Ralph could have said the Summit light interior will be on the 2015s. Period. But he said in the very near term which implies a running change during the 2014 model year, something they regularly do. I believe the saddle interior and the Summit itself came to be in that manner during the 2011 model year run. Since the 2014 to 2015 changes are minimal no big deal to start something new toward the end of a model run. There was 6 months worth of 2014 production yet to be built when he committed to a Summit light interior.

Is it really going to happen on the 2015s or even at all? At this point who knows?

Re: Changes for 2015?

NorthstarSRX, it's going to be unlikely that it will hit any MY14 since the order banks for MY14 vehicles closed last Friday. Ordering for MY15 commences in early June. That would be the logical place to introduce a new interior color at this point...they are not about to change orders already in the system.

Re: Changes for 2015?

Knew that. That's why the question re 2015 or ever.

But it does mean that if they do offer it on June 9th a I can't get one until September/October. Many more months of delay. That is a far cry from "in the very near future" he stated on January 10, 2014. This is all about setting realistic customer expectations in the first place and following up if things change. Customer satisfaction 101.

Very near future in the car world is not the same as real world. Most things are tested years in advance before they are released.
Considering the population that wants this interior such as yourself I would much rather have them fix bugs and work on weight reduction or fuel efficiency than put a new interior color out there.

Re: Changes for 2015?

I'm with you, Northstar'...I "really dislike" (IE "hate") dark interiors. (not fond of dark exteriors, either) Yes, very subjective, but I sure hope that my next JGC (probably in the 2017 time frame) will be able to have whatever passes for Summit trim level and a "not dark" interior. My current Saddle interior pushes the limit with all the black!

Apparently not, as no light colors came out!!! LOL Just joking with ya.

My bet would be one more interior color option for the Summit, perhaps two at the very most. With that said, I'm not a fan of the all black and was hesitant on changing from a Saddle Summit.....BUT, I am loving the all brown interior, I really am. Yes, it is "dark" but doesn't have such a dark feeling when in it. I don't miss the Saddle anymore. I do see the need for a light interior option in the Summit, at least for the leather portions like the 2011 Saddle version. Perhaps a light frost beige like for the interior leather or perhaps all the leather except the upper leather trim like the Overland saddle vs. Overland Summit saddle differences in interior....would be simple to do and may look great with the contrasting brown....and satisfy some of the lighter interior desires??? Heck, maybe I should report to Sergio too...in the "very near term"..... LOL

Re: Changes for 2015?

Visited my local Jeep dealer yesterday to test drive the V8 and diesel. They said the 2014 order banks were still open through early May (not convinced that's accurate), and that a 2015 could be ordered in early June--which matches up with the info. provided here. They had no idea what changes/options/colors were going to be available for 2015.

Also, they told me an interesting tidbit: The Limited model--especially without the Lux II package--sells so much faster than the Overland and Summit trims, that when they order from Jeep they have to agree to take an Overland or Summit for every four or five Limiteds that they order to help Jeep unload the upper trim models.

That probably depends on the dealership and who there buyers are in their area. From the dealerships I have visited the upper trim levels are selling very well. In fact, Overlands had sold so well that they separated the Summit from the Overland to create a separated "Summit" trim level.

Most sales people are full of BS and generally like to say stuff to make themselves looks like they are "in the know" and a source of information for people...they're not. Nor do the majority of sales people know jack about the vehicles themselves and you'll probably know far more than them when you walk into the showroom.

My most impressive sales person experience was way back in the early 90's (date?) when I was looking for a new car and my dad and I decided to stop into a Hyundai dealership which was very new at the time....had barely even heard of the brand before. The sales lady knew her product inside and out and every detail....she was selling us on the Hyundai brand and what it had to offer. Every detail, every feature ... open the hood and pointed out everything. We both left like ... wow ... very knowledgable, had command of every detail, could answer any question and wasn't at all pushy.

Contrast to my recent experience where locally at one dealership no one knew anything, they admitted they didn't really know much as the vehicles are new and the models change so much (seriously...) and one instead of selling me on the car was trying to sell me on the fact that their dealership puts nitrogen in the tires at no cost along with green stem caps (a $400 value!!! yeah right) and etches every window with the serial number (a thief would have to break all the windows to get away with reselling your vehicle she told me). Anyway, we all know Jeep needs to tighten up on QC and the dealership experience (no wonder Tesla doesn't want dealerships...cause they can ruin the experience).

Sorry for the extensive "rant" but was tying and just kept going. LOL

I have definitely had bad dealership experiences. Nothing like run out the dealership bad but just dealing with sales folks who say "I don't know" many times over.

EXCEPT

My recent decision to walk into the local dealership last week has put me in a position where I may be pulling the trigger on a 14 GC Altitude. Let me explain my positive experience (similar to your Hyundai experience).

First, I walked in on a busy Saturday at 2PM. Immediately the front desk greeted me and the wife and asked how they can help. I said just looking at the new GC's and didn't really have a reason to be here, just curious. Immediately we were given a GC book and was asked to wait just 1 minute. She came back with one of the sales guys who quickly asked if I was ready to see a great machine. No hesitation my wife and I followed the sales guy over to a GC on the floor. He asked if I knew the different packages and had no problem to explain each one starting from base. I stopped him and asked that I heard about some type of Altitude package. He smiled and said "I know what to show you, just stay right here by this door and I'll bring something around".

Within just a few minutes a Black Crystal 14 Altitude in its shiny glory pulled up and the sales guy jumped out waving us to come on. He asked if my wife would like to sit in the driver seat but she pointed at me and said "this is his thing". I jumped in the driver seat, wife in the passenger, and the sales guy in the back. He immediately went into all the features and functions, making me press all the buttons, change the HUD, Open the sunroof, adjust the seats, correct the mirrors, and then said let's go for a ride. The entire time during our short 15 minute drive he explained the 8-speed trans and Pentastar engine. He spoke about the handling and how it compares to the competition. He instructed me to feel the engine, feel the comfort, and enjoy the ride.

Needless to say in a total of 30 minutes from walking into the dealership and now sitting at the sales guys desk, I was extremely blown away. He gave me some pricing and suggested that when I'm ready to come back and see him. He didn't even ask if I wanted to pull the trigger now or when. He just said "When your ready I'm ready". I took his card, some quoted pricing, and was on my way. It's been a week now and I think we are going back this week to do some final numbers.

Damn it feel good to come back to Jeep!
