Re: Check your hood gasket

I checked after reading this too-I was missing it on my Limited
I did the same thing with checking the floor models first then going to the service desk.

Dealer called and the strips are in, I will be going in for other items Monday and have them installed then on both trucks.

Re: Check your hood gasket

This may sound stupid, but if Jeep calls it a "snow blocker" is there a chance they don't put it on certain models based on where they are going in the country. Hmmm, just typing that made me feel like I got dumber. But why would SO many people be missing a part?

Also, there's a new owner who just posted his defroster stopped working after a fair amount of driving in snowing conditions. Could this be related? Intake get clogged?

I know they call it a snow blocker, but to me, this really looked like more of a water blocker. There is a small gap under the hood and without it splashing water would have direct access to the intake.

I'm not sure about the wintery areas, but here in Dallas, I checked several others that had it when I went in to drop mine off.

Maybe it's a build date thing, it's possible they didnt add this part until somewhere in the 2011 cycle and all the folks missing it were built prior to this?

Re: Check your hood gasket

^Agree with NB, this gasket blocks anything from entering the air intake scoop directly: snow, water, small debris, etc. These items and air are then forced around the gasket at angles that would keep many solids out and just let air into it.

Ryan, this intake feeds air into the throttle body and engine to mix with gas and spark for combustion, if this intake is getting clogged by solids the engine would bog down before the defroster. The defroster/HVAC system has its own makeup air intakes.

Re: Check your hood gasket

From reading this post, I looked and found mine missing. Called dealer parts guy, he hadn't heard about it either, so I gave him part number and he said "yeah, I got it"......"$9.95". I say to him, "you charge for something that's missing?" .......he says "$9.95". I said thank you and hung up. I am going to do a undedr hood delaer lot check, as some of you have done, and hope to dismiss this bullcrap.

**UPDATE** - I have just returned from dealership, told service manager about this problem (even gave him the part # 68084597AA) we even did a check of new Jeep on lot which had it. It appeared he was a little hesitant, but he did install one, no charge. When asked about it, he said he was just figuring what to charge it to, so all is good now, thanks to this post!
P.S. - I recommend you take part # to help yourself, as the parts guy won't!

IMHO, I wouldn't speak with the parts guy. Talk to the service manager or your salesperson. OR... drive down to the dealership, stand in the middle of the showroom loudly asking WHY DIDN'T MY BRAND NEW JEEP HAVE ALL THE PARTS IT IS SUPPOSED TO??? (works every time)

Re: Check your hood gasket

I'm glad everyone who is missing this is getting it corrected.

And to Flying Dutchmen, I would have asked him to transfer me to the sales or service manager asap. Total BS.
