I drove the cherokee trailhawk yesterday and the front seats are super comfy. I wonder if you can swap them on wk2. The front seats on the wk2 are so not comfy.
would you want to have an ugly girlfriend with a nice rack or would you rather have a hot girlfriend that can get a boob job? so no, i'm not buying a cherokee.
'Just a reminder that we have many female members here at Jeep Garage including several on the moderation team...so perhaps different analogies may present better.
I've read there are actually seven different types of foam cushion for the seats in the 2011+ Grand Cherokee, depending on your trim level and options. So not only is seat comfort dependent on personal tastes, but its also dependent on what trim levels you've tested out.
I liked our 2014 Limited (Lux II) seats... until we got my 2013 Ram Longhorn. I LOVE those seats! Our Grand Cherokee's seats are a bit too stiff for me now, but still comfortable.
since we're on the subject, what is the difference between different foam numbers?!? and do these numbers apply to all seats? Or are the front and rear seats different foam types?
We have both a GC Overland and a Cherokee limited. The Cherokee's seats are more comfortable when first sitting in them, but since the GC is our long distance car, I can't really say how the Cherokee seats would be for a 400+ mile stint. Though with the size of the gas tank and the thirst of its V6, I guess it doesn't really matter, we'd be stopping regularly anyway!
Overall, from what I do know, I slightly prefer the Cherokee's seats.
I came from a 13 Audi Q5 with great seats into a new Overland. It took me about 5k miles before the GC seats started to be comfortable and soot my fat butt. Perhaps over more time they'll get even more comfy. But I have noticed a big improvement from day 1. For what its worth.
The Cherokee seats are contoured slightly better IMHO and gives you a more snug fit. The GC seats are bigger and firmer- a larger guy will benefit more from it. Personally the firmer seats are actually better for you from an orthopedic perspective. I never feel the slightest bit uncomfortable even on longer trips.
My summit seats are not so comfy.........the '08 GC Limited 's' had far superior seats.
All around, I wish I'd taken a longer 'test drive' before purchasing........most likely would not have.
Yeah.....the Altitude seats are pretty stiff.
I'm going old school, going to cover front and rear with high end sheep skin.
They should be more comfortable, protected from heat and my kids.
I found that my Overland seats have gotten alot better since I passed the 6000 mile mark.
Initially I hated the seats. Enough that I seriously considered getting the MDX instead (those seats are incredible comfortable). But not my overland seats are great. Just did a 3 1/2 hour drive without stopping and felt no discomfort or stiffness afterwards
Probably like mattresses - different foam cushion is used and also different layers with different thicknesses. It may even vary depending on if cloth or leather and the type of leather used to prevent stretching and sagging with use...
My wife's demo has been a Cherokee for that last couple weeks......Cherokee seats are more comfy than my Grande Cherokee. Miss the seats that were in MY '08 Limited 's'. Would gladly give up cooling for comfort and heat that worked.
I can second the notion that Overland seats get more comfy with use. Mine seemed a little hard at first, but now they're just fine, even on long trips.
So far no complaints on the Jeep seats. The firmness gives me good lumbar support. The old Mustang we had would induce a backache after anything over a half hour in them. These in the Grand Cherokee I could stay in for hours.
I hope they hold up better than the 2 La-Z-Boy recliners I just replaced. I flipped the recliner lever the other day and a bunch of springs and hardware came rolling out. More cheaply manufactured $h!t.
Keep really has done a great job on the seats from WK2 through the non mechanized seats in the KL line up. I had a 2011 Buick Regal turbo, which was made in Germany but just a rebadged Opel Insignia with fantastic seats. I thought I might see a bit more uncomfortable seat in the Jeep selections but very impressed with both my WK2 and KL seats. Great lumbar support. Previously I thought Infiniti and Lincoln had the best seats for long road trips. In the WK2 I went up and down I-95 3 times from the border of Canada to Orlando or Charleston and back. The got a bit tiring as I drive straight but like the Lincoln Town Car from 2003 and an Infiniti Q45 that I went cross country with from NY to WA or SLC to DC and back the Jeep seats are amazing for the SUV that are also amazing off road vehicles as well. Having heat to loosen up those sore gluteus muscles and the lower back support in the lumbar region make these some of the best riding comfort in the industry. I've seen both GMC and Honda seats that were nowhere near this cozy. Same for Land Rover or Nissans best.
Enjoy the cruising on the highway in your Jeep knowing that your seats are right up there with the best.
