Re: Chicago Autoshow. Pictures and impressions inside!

The overall effect of the changes make the Grand Cherokee look more generic. They also make it look skinnier and taller. I prefer SUVs with a lower, wider stance. After these changes, the Acura MDX looks better to me.

Then you prefer crossovers.... So why are you here?

I think that's his exact point with the changes to the '14 (softer looking rather than edgy and agressive)

Can't say I agree with that. I know it's all personal opinion, but I don't see how a slightly reworked front end makes the jeep look taller and skinnier?!? It's the exact same body style. As for the MDX that IMO has always been a slick looking SUV, especially the latest ones with the new wheels and stuff. And to others comments about the MDX being a cross over. I mean I guess that's true, but it's not like the Ford's that are based off FWD cars. The Super Handling AWD is pretty incredible and if you have never driven one I recommend it. Not everyone needs full out offroad capability. For me I will NEVER take a vehicle offroad. Hell, my cars never even see a gravel road. Even though I haven't owned one I would absolutely consider a newer MDX.

I'm on here because I own a Jeep. And isn't the WK2 a crossover, anyway?

One of the main reasons I bought my Jeep is that I tow a boat and drive over some pretty poor roads. I broke off parts of the undercarriage and an oil pan on my prior tow vehicle. I got the ORAII package, but I'll probably never go truly offroad, let alone rock crawling. I suspect that's true of most of the members here. At the moment, I tow less than 2,000 pounds without trailer brakes. The MDX's 5,000 pound towing capacity would probably suffice for me, even though it wouldn't inspire the same confidence as the Jeep's 7,400 pound towing capacity. I almost high centered the Jeep once when I backed my boat trailer over the bank of a pond and the Jeep's rear wheels sank into soft sand after they came off of a foot of more solid dirt and grass. Thank goodness for Quadra-Lift Off-Road II and Quadra-Drive II. Although I think an MDX wouldn't have been able to save my butt that time, I'm pretty sure it could handle everything else I do. So, yeap, I think the MDX is a viable alternative to the Jeep.

Jeep has smoothed out and softened the distinctive styling features of the Grand Cherokee. It's starting to look like a stock car to me. You know, how they stick on decals with the features of the cars they're supposed to represent, but they're really all the same shape? Although Acura has done that a bit to the 2014 MDX, too, it also lowered the roof by 1-1/2 inches. Honda says it's shooting for "low, wide and sleek proportions". Sleek I could live without, but I prefer low and wide. And, to be clear, I'm talking about cars, not women.

I used to think that the grill was hideous, too, but Acura has been toning it down and I guess I'm getting used to it.

Re: Chicago Autoshow. Pictures and impressions inside!

I always thought the nose of the Acura MDX was nice. Looks advanced and kind of futuristic. It was the 09-11 TL that had the horrendous grill which Acura thankfully fixed starting with the 2012 model. Us 3G TL owners still love the 04-08 TL body style. I currently have a 08 TL type S which I love.
The Grand Cherokee is without a doubt my favorite SUV, but I would say second choice would easily go to the newer MDX advance package.

Crossovers are like crossdressers... never know what's under the hood.

The only thing that was close to the Jeep brand being a crossdresser is the AMC Eagle - and that was only through marriage.

There's always one in the family.
