Chrome Accents

I know that chrome is always looked at differently by us all but does anyone else wish jeep would allow us to delete it as an option for the door handles and mirror caps?

I find it funny that since the wk was introduced we had plastic matte black be a bottom trim accent piece and then it ranged to chrome everywhere on the overland... then once the wk2 was released all of a sudden Jeep loves chrome. I miss having the body colored options. With the amount of chrome on my wk2 overland I kind of which my wheels were more so like the '13 summit ones rather than the '14 standard 20''

I almost want to tint the chrome trim and have a nice smoke shine detail going. Hmm.

Re: Chrome Accents

Well, it really depends on the body color. Personally, I like the look of the chrome on the cherry red jeeps.

The only thing I don't like about the chrome door handles is all the hand marks you get all over them that show up way more on a shiny surface.

I also don't like the chrome strip near the top edge of the rear bumper where you tend to press your legs against it when reaching into the cargo area. Mine's already showing scratches on that strip and it's only a few weeks old. It'll be a mess by the time I pay the thing off.

Sorry but I feel that "chrome is crap".

I feel that a totally color matched vehicle almost always looks better.

I've already changed out the chrome side mirrors on my 2015 Granite Overland. I have no plans to modify the front since I actually like the way it looks (especially with the DRLs on). And I haven't decided on the door handles yet. They might stay or they might go.

Re: Chrome Accents

Chrome is old school and I like it. It is much easier to maintain versus the plastic.

My 02 WJ has the black plastic door handles, hatch handle, mirrors andhe lower cladding is the vinyl. PITA to maintain, the chrome on my new cherry red looks so much nicer, older cars had a lot of chrome and I hope the trend is to away from plastic.

Unfortunately, most modern chrome IS plastic. As far as I know, none of the chrome on the WK2 is real.

Granted, it shines up easier, but it also scratches far more easily. The only good news is that it's far cheaper to replace than the real thing.

Re: Chrome Accents

'Tis a very subjective thing...I happen to like it, but can appreciate and respect those who prefer a body-color everywhere approach.

That is true, but sure beats faded plastic trim.

I have some of the new chrome on my PT's, has held up well, the door handles are actually chrome plated metal, and also a lot of the older 60's and 70's chrome pot metal which was flash chromed.

Amen. Every time Jeep comes out with a GC MOPAR edition in the spring I want to just have one to keep tweeking and so forth. Its quite fascinating when it comes to trim, half of me wants one that is the "luxury but capable suv" the other wants a trail monster. Cant wait to have a big garage.
