Chrysler Extended warranty or Maxcare

:eek:I know this subject has been beaten to death and I'm not sure where to place this post but here goes.

I've done some research on extended warranties. I've found Maxcare thru Carmax and the Chrysler extended warranty. People talk about Maxcare on this site and seem to like it but I've read a bad review about Maxcare. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/auto_warranty/maxcare-auto-warranty.html

I tried to find something about how people like the Chrysler warranty both here and on the internet in general but didn't find much.

Which one do you like?

I have Maxcare on my Jeep and it's great. I haven't had a reason to use it outside of warranty (though I just crossed 36k miles on my Jeep so I will eventually). The nicest thing I've found is the same day car rental. Even for a standard warranty recall or oil change, I get a rental.

Unrelated to Maxcare, when my Jeep was in the shop for the malfunctioning air suspension, the repair took a week because it was over Thanksgiving last year and they needed to order parts, I was given a 2016 4Runner. We put over 1000 miles on that thing because we were traveling. And all it cost me was gas. (It also made me really appreciate my Jeep!)

Thanks all.
I've been on the Chrysler Warranty Direct site and nowhere did I see it called Maxcare. Now that I've been on the Zeigler site I see where the name came from.

It's interesting what's not covered by that the third party 10 year warranty the dealer offered me for about the same price. Such as CV joints but not the boots.

I have a 2014 Overland. I also purchased the warranty from Zeigler ($1900). Zeigler has a payment program if you don't have the cash upfront. IMHO, with all the electronics in these vehicles, it's well worth it. Any issues that I have, I take it in, they fix, I pay the $100 deductible and I'm out.

To be clear...Carmax, nor any other car "dealer", cannot sell the true blue Mopar Vehicle Protection Plans (MVP), which Maximum Care is plan level within, since they can only be sold by Mopar/FCA direct or authorized CDJR new car dealers and Carmax is not.

Realistically most people won’t keep a vehicle for more than 8 years, so look at the 8 year max care and whatever mileage limit fits you. The 8 year one is also transferable whereas the lifetime was not (except in very specific occasions).

I happened to find myself in a Carmax with my son last week. They do in fact offer a plan called Maxcare, but it is a third party product not related to the Chrysler version (which Chrysler must have neglected to do a TM registration on), or so they told me when I asked.

Officially the Mopar Vehicle Protection extended service contract is called Maximum Care which is service marked. The CarMax MaxCare extended service contract is I believe underwritten by Assurant/The Warranty Group.

I've bought manufacturer, dealer, and third party warranties on many cars and never had any trouble with claims being denied, and all of them have ended up repaying at least their cost, and in many cases, more. Sometimes double and triple. The key has been I will only purchase an "exclusionary" warranty. That's where there is a list of what is NOT covered, and anything not on that list is implicitly covered. The "named item" warranties are the ones where they can easily deny claims because the failed part was not on the list of covered items. And of course, all cars have thousands of specific parts, relays, modules etc not on those generic lists.

I have had 3 Carmax Maxcare warranties including my current WK2. Never had any bad experiences with them, they're accepted at any ASE repair shop including the dealership. There's a lower deductible if you take it to Carmax service department (where most times they end up taking it to the dealer anyway) but I prefer using the shop of my choosing.
