cigarett lighter blowing fuses

I had a brand new 2014 JGC Limited 4x4 with 3.6V, with less than 300 miles. When I tried to plug in a dashcam, it blew the fuse. I plugged the dashcam into the power outlet at the center console, it worked just fine. Then I "borrowed" the fuse (couldn't find the micro fuses in any local store) from the rear power outlet, and it blew again!

Anyone has a similar experience?

In any case, I will bring it in to the dealer for a check up.

Re: cigarett lighter blowing fuses

The designs of some plugs can cause a short in cigarette lighter outlets, but not auxiliary power outlets. Cig lighter outlets have a different kind of center contact that is larger than a normal aux power outlet due to the bimetal latching mechanism.

I've done this before in a Mercedes E320. My brother's Subaru even prohibits in the manual the use of anything but a cigarette lighter in its socket saying to use the aux outlet in the center armrest instead.

Thanks for the explanation. That explains it!

I found the fuses at Advance Auto Parts. They are labeled ATR made by Bussman.
