Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I've been comparing the 2011 JGC to a few other vehicles and am very much set on the Jeep except for the interior choice; I really want the fold-flat passenger seat but also want leather and can't have both. Has anyone intentionally picked the cloth over leather for that reason and regretted it?

For those who have the cloth seats and have had them for a while, do you have any regrets over not having leather? I suppose I could always go to an aftermarket upholsterer and get leather (~$1300) then I can have it both ways. However, I'd rather have the nice factory leather instead of going aftermarket, but leather is not a need-to-have unless owners have issues living with cloth. Sorry to be so verbose. Thanks for any feedback!

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I don't know how much the Jeep's have improved in their cloth seats since the WK 05-10 models ... the biggest thing with the cloth seats was that they would stain very easy and be very hard to remove. I personally prefer leather for that reason because maintenance is easy but then of course whenever your seats are destroyed you can upholster it with leather and call it good ...

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I have the cloth seats. I think they are excellent. They are even stain resistant....at least that's what my salesman said. I had leather seats in my 98 ZJ with the X package and the passenger seat ripped at the location of where the power seat controls were....albiet that part of the seat may have been vinyl. All in all though the leather was very nice. I opted for the cloth seats this time as I didn't want to spend the extra cash for the X package....plus we have a baby on the way and I don't want the rear leather seats getting ruined with car seats.

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I actually prefer cloth seats for comfort but I always get leather because its much easier to clean dog hair and slobber off of. I sat in a laredo with cloth about two weeks ago and it seems to be a high quality cloth.

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I think leather can only be had as a part of X package ($4000 extra). So I think you should consider it in that perspective.

That being said I saw both kinds of cloth seats at the dealership. Black is very good, another color - not so much (probably the same material as black, just doesn't look good).

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I sat in a Laredo E at the dealer and was very impressed by the black cloth interior. The cloth seemed to be high quality.

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

The cloth seats in the WK2 is great. But I prefer cloth over leather any day of the week

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I'm not too fond of the leather seats in the Laredo. Too 'puffy' and old-fashioned looking - whenever I see them I think of Ricardo Montalban going, "available in soft Corinthian leather".

I like the cleaner lines and more modern looking vented seats available in the Limited/Overland far better.

I was surprised how good the cloth seats look. At least the grey ones; not too keen on the black ones.

I prefer the cloth seats. Too bad the Laredo X 5.7L only has leather.

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

Good feedback. I agree the cloth material felt of high quality.
What I'm wrestling with is getting the fold-flat passenger seat
that I can't get with the Xpkg and leather. I want the goodies
in the Xpkg but also want the fold-flat capability. If the comfort
of cloth seats isn't compromised vs the mandatory leather in the
Xpkg, then I guess I could always do the aftermarket leather
upholstery (as long as the shape/comfort of the seat cushioning
is as good as that with factory leather). I'm too picky on these
kinds of things but I drive 30k miles per year. I don't mind missing
Xpkg goodies to have that fold-flat seat unless the comfort suffers.

Re: Cloth vs Leather (Xpkg)

I don't think comfort on cloth seats is compromised at all. I didn't know about fold flat passenger seat but seat shape seemed to be the same between cloth and leather seats. Driver seat for cloth is all power with adjustable lumbar support (not sure about passenger seat).

Call me crazy, but I am thinking of replacing leather cover with black cloth on driver seat (I got an X package) after I get my car. Either that or wooden beads cover
