Although FCW doesn't press the brakes for you, I believe it presets the brakes for you like it does in the rain (MBZ contribution). Basically it will preload the brakes those precious millimeters to increase your response time. Your car won't slow down, but your brakes will be more responsive when you do decide to slam on them.

Should be standard on all vehicles.

I agree. All of this technology is making drivers not pay attention. My brother has a backup camera in his car and flat out cannot back up a car without one. It's sad that drivers these days rely on technology instead of paying attention. Maybe instead of a FCW, stop and take a nap if you are tired. Instead of TPMS, try looking at your vehicle before driving it and knowing how a tire that is low on air feels. I feel sorry for my kids, the cars are going to do everything for them, they won't even get to enjoy "driving".

Re: Collision warning saved my life, and possibly time in Jail!

Speaking for myself, I was never able to parallel park anything larger than a civic without a ton of space. I guess my depth perception / judgement of where the end of the car is is whack. Backup camera lets me get into tighter parking spots. But I can't blame the camera for making me a worse parker, I was already bad!

Re: Collision warning saved my life, and possibly time in Jail!

FCW is a great idea, but it falses on our Overland about once every thousand miles or so (the latest being yesterday on a clear road). The Chicken Little effect means it eventually gets so ignored as to be pretty much useless.
