Re: Coming from Audi to Jeep

Over the past few years we have owned RR, BMW, MB etc...Before the WK2, I would not even consider a Jeep product.
While Jeep does not provide a loaner car, it is refreshing to bring it in to the local dealer every few thousand miles and walk out with a $42 oil change bill..
After 11k miles in 6 months, I find the build quality of my Summit to be superior to the marques mentioned above. I tell everyone that asks..."Chrysler NAILED it on this one!"

Re: Coming from Audi to Jeep

I had 2 A4 quattros prior to buying my Jeep. My wife has the A5 quattro cabrio with the aforementioned 8 speed auto. Before that she had the new TT cabrio with DSG. I thought I'd be disappointed with the "only" 5 speed in the Jeep but even though I'd driven solely manual transmissions for the prior 10 years, I'm entirely satisfied with the transmission in the Jeep.

As for the big knob on the console - the A5 has a big MMI knob on the console, as to most Audis except the TT & R8. On the Jeep it's unobtrusive and you don't need to mess with it.

I can't get over how nice the Jeep is. It's got a lot of features my wife's A5 lacks, and that was a $55k car. I don't expect the service experience at the Jeep dealer to be as good as at Audi, but as others have mentioned, I'll console myself with the massive savings on the same.

Re: Coming from Audi to Jeep

Some people mentioned differing dealer experiences, and this is spot on. I never really feel "welcome" at Jeep dealers, and I always feel well taken care of at the Audi dealer. Its too bad, but Chrysler has a lot to learn about running its franchisees.

Had the same conversation with a friend who's also on this forum after I bought mine. We agreed that the newest Grand, aka "WK2", in Limited or Overland trim is like having an Audi, Mercedes or BMW sedan but with a lot more space and off road capability. I heard the "Wow! This is a JEEP?" comment several times from relatives and my friend gets that same line from his customers. Yeah they did this one right.

Re: Coming from Audi to Jeep

Six months ago I replaced my wife's car. I spent a lot of time researching and test driving every RWD sedan I could find with AWD with a budget of around $40k. Audi, Infiniti, Chrysler, and a dealer special on a BMW. Chrysler was my favorite based on driving alone plus it was bigger, least expensive and the most features. Yeah, they've come a long way.

Since I have the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission in my Audi, I definitely want to wait for it to come to the Grand Cherokee. The thought of a diesel is also very intriguing. Sounds like I will be waiting until at least late this year or probably 2013 for these options.

One quick question:

--I test drove the V6 and was quite pleased with the vehicle. However, the select-trac knob on the console is not something I would use. Is there an option to order without the knob on the console? If I do that, what features would I give up?

Thanks for your help.

Curt
No 4x4 here. No need. I live in FL not Colorado. You almost have to special order an SUV with 4x4 here. Its like 1 in 20 have it on dealer lots. Majority of people here view it as a waste of money and mpg. That said I would also test drive the V8. Comes with what I think is a better trans and then there's no wait. If you are in an area with regular snowfall, and I grew up in the Northeast and was a Skier so when I was there I always got 4x4, then I would consider the 4x4. If you don't, and don't plan on going heavy off road, just the occasional beach , dirt road, or field, skip it.

And as for the dealer stuff, there are good ones and bad ones for every level and brand. I have had Infiniti, Mercedes, BMW, Nissan, Jeep, VW, Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, and for each I have had both good and bad experiences. Just find a good dealer where you are and stick with them. I drive 30 min extra with my BMW because I like the other dealer more. Local one sucks. Same with Nissan. But since I see them so rarely, I don't let the few minutes I spend there vs. the hours and days I spend driving, I won't let the dealer affect which vehicle I choose.

I also changed my Audi... the reason my 7 speed S-tronic gearbox break down after warranty with 2.3 years old or 25,000 miles. If i wanted fix i had to pay almost 6,000 USD for the tranny.

BTW, in the dealer they were 5 cars with the same issue. So, you're not setting your standard pretty high with Audi.

Agreed, one of the many issues my RS/6 had was the transmission and they had to ship a new one over from Europe, out of commission for a few more weeks there.
