Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

so i went to test drive the 2014 JGC. they only had an overland available for test drive. the V6 is adequate, though i wished it was more peppy. i don't think i want to pay extra for the v8 as i read it has terrible mpg.

i initially wanted the limited after the test drive because i was told there is no wood interior in that trim. i seriously don't understand why they force wood on you...it's quite old fashioned looking. anyway, with luxury group II and nav added, it looked good enough compared to the overland.

besides the air suspension and leather dash, what other major features am i missing that i can't get with the Limited + luxII and nav? of course the dealer is pushing me to get the overland...and gave me a sweet deal...as far as canada deals anyway. we're literally paying $11,000 more than americans

$51,800 CAD + tax and ac tax. $58,714.77 all in. he's also waiving any admin/pdi/freight charge. MSRP is $57,145 and invoice is $52,947 + $1695 destination. so basically i'm getting it for ~5% under invoice since he waived destination. saving almost $7,500 off msrp if i include all the admin and pdi fees he's waiving.

your thoughts on pricing? should i be worried about reliability that i keep seeing on these boards and consumer reports? i saw a thread with instructions to wrap the wood trim...but i'm still stuck with a steering wheel with wood on it. possible to order an SRT steering wheel to replace it?

Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

Can't speak to the price in Canada, but my 2012 V6 averaged 17.37 mpg over 15,000 miles. My 2014 V8 Overland with just over 2000 miles is averaging 16.85 mpg. (both of these averages are actual calculations using a phone app, not the somewhat optimistic onboard in the EVIC)

The 6 has to work a lot harder to haul the 5000 lbs of Jeep around. Note: the average for a 2014 V6 might be a bit better than what I was getting due to the 8 speed vs. 5 speed in the 2012.

So far, zero issues with my Overland.

Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

The Overland wheel is more leather than wood.

I don't know that there are major differences between a loaded Limited and an Overland. Maybe the folding mirrors?

My Overland has had a couple of issues, but nothing major. I never left the Jeep at the dealer, and the waits have been between 1/2 to 3 hours. My last 2 visits were for oil changes and to have them perform TSBs, as opposed to having to call to get something fixed. Vehicle is a year old with around 7,000 miles.

do you feel a huge difference when city driving or overtaking on the hwy with the V8 vs the V6?

The limited has wood trim as well. Not sure if it's real, but it is a wood grain trim. Just different than the overland. If you're buying, the overland is a better deal. It comes standard with stuff that you have to end up paying at least the same, if not more on the limited. The limited will always be lacking items that aren't available. The overland also has painted wheel well trim. Depending on what color you get, it sometimes doesn't look good. I went for the limited because I was leasing, a better deal, and I liked the black wheel well trim better on the white than the painted. Most other colors it looks good though.

It's not really fair to compare the V6 without the new 8 speed to current ones, as the 8 speed really helps the current V6. With 390 ft-lbs. of torque, the V8 has NO issues passing a slower vehicle QUICKLY!

BTW, just returned from a 600 mile trip and averaged 21 mpg with the V8 using the recommended 89 octane.

Evolv0 is just really nice
Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

Honestly I love my overland, its beautiful and a beast. I enjoy the wood, leather, QL2, QD2, Nav, tow package, the works. the only thing I didn't get was the skid plates.

I went with the V8 over the V6 because the V6 I felt was sluggish and unrefined. once I got in one with a V8, I really fell for it. I usually get between 16city-24hwy MPG.

As for the price, that is crazy, I say drive down to the states and buy one there, then have a nice road trip back in your new car!

Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

I say go overland. It has alot of stuff that is worth it in my opinion. Not sure on teh V8. I think the V6 is more than adequate for the majority of driving. Drove the V8 and was in the mid to low teens in mpg. The V6 is in the 20-21 mpg.

can't get warranty and will have to jump through a couple of hoops like replace the instrument cluster, airbag stickers, electronic immobilizer, daytime running lights ($500+ for all). then with all the fees, including import duty and gas, i'm looking at something close to $4,000. so i have to tack on at least $4,500. then i have to account for the many hours i have to spent + another couple hundred in gas money/flights.

on top of that, i most likely will have to pay cash since i can't get financing in the states. $50K in cash is not something i'm willing to part with.

with all that considered, i'm saving maybe $3K-4K...and no warranty. eh...not worth it.

Yes, but I'm comparing a 5 speed V6 to an 8 speed V8... it better be big. The Hemi with the 8 speed just delivers seamless power whenever I ask for it and I was so annoyed with the 5 speed always being in the wrong gear that I decided the more gears and cylinders the better

Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

Not really going to weigh in on v6 vs. v8 thing since it's really preference. I can say, the hemi has plenty of passing power and get up and go, it'll push you back in your seat from a get go - I even had a friend with me the other day and we were talking about the v8 vs v6 as I had to pass someone at 1/2 throttle and his response was... "... and because you can pass people smoothly, with no effort or drama when you need to"

I get around 16 when I am mostly city, get 18 overall, and on an all highway cruise will get about 20 doing between 70 and 75. I am sure I can get 21/22/23 if I kept to 65mph, but I don't.

Re: Considering 2014 Overland (thoughts?)

The Limited with Luxury and Tow pkgs. is still much cheaper than Overland. Most of the price difference is the QL. But what value is leather dash and wood on the steering wheel? I can't answer that for you.
