I agree about reviews, people are more likely to write complaints vs compliments. However all the other SUVs I've looked at had very little consumer reviews (edmunds/cars etc) while the 14JGC had a bunch.
I know, it sucks to take the risk! I'm a HUGE BMW fan and really was looking at the X1, but I honestly didn't even bother to look at one in person. The reason why, is because while I love BMW, I feel like they are falling behind, especially in vehicle options. They just simply don't have what the other cars have. What I'm really pissed about though, is my $40k Jeep Limited doesn't have BASIC standard features like Xenon headlights and overall better quality/assembly. Far too many people have complained. I mean come on, my 12 year old MINI has auto-leveling Xenon headlights for crying out loud.

I also heard that Jeep doesn't provide you a loaner car if your vehicle is in for warranty? WHAT!? ANY MINI/BMW that goes in for warranty, you are provided an equivalent or similar loaner for free, no questions asked. We'll see how the "Jeep" experience turns out...

I've always secretly wanted a Jeep though, so I couldn't resist. I just hope I made the right choice! Leasing IMO, also made it easier, because I know I'm only in the car for 3 years. You might want to go that route too, just an option.

Re: Considering purchase of 2014 JGC Limited or Overland

I'm about seven months into owning my '14 JGC. The first few months of owning it, it was in the shop frequently for electrical and fit and finish issues. I got to know my dealer well. They addressed every issue I brought to them although sometimes it took them a few tries to get it right.

Under my state's lemon law, my Jeep has had sufficient problems to require Chrysler to buy it back. It's working fine now with the exception of the glitchy backup camera and the occasional "phone requires service" message. I eagerly await a new software version to fix these. In spite of all the issues, and the fact I could give it back to Chrysler now and not lose any money, I don't know of any car I'd rather have. So, I'm keeping it.

If you decide to buy one, look it over very closely for fit and finish problems. Check panel gaps. Make sure everything works. Most of my car's problems were present from the day I drove it home. If it presents with issues, find one that doesn't.

Consider a Maxcare warranty. While I usually don't suggest extended warranties, it the case of the Jeep, it may pay off. And you get free rentals for service and repairs. Let us know what you choose.

Exactly me! When I purchased my current vehicle (2011 Volvo XC9O) the grand Cherokee was my top choice. However, after a test drive I didn't care for it. Fast forward 3 years and the Volvo that was somewhat out of date then is really behind the times now. I ordered a 2014 JGC overland last month. When I drove one this time around I was really impressed. I wanted one three years ago so this time I took a leap of faith. Just hoping I don't step too far down from the safety, reliability, and customer service that came with the Volvo.

December 2013 build Summit and has been great. I would be embarrassed to say I worked at Jeep with some fit and finish issues but overall very happy and would recommend it to family and friends.

Re: Considering purchase of 2014 JGC Limited or Overland

Thanks for the all the comments. I'm going to do some more research on JGC and other manufactures (like Lexus, BMW and MB).

I think I'm going to start by going back to the Jeep dealer and look at build quality more closely. I didn't the first time.

Seeing other threads like the one of a refused delivery of 2014 Summit, don't sit well tho. You should have confidence when spending this much on a vehicle. If I don't, I have to look else where. A shame too as the JGC had all the things I was looking for.

Re: Considering purchase of 2014 JGC Limited or Overland

Will follow-up with a little more...

I could have any vehicle in the $50-60k range. Did research - including reading a lot of forum posts. Also I buy all my vehicles (new one every 1-2 years) direct from the general manager of the family of dealers (choose from multiple mfgs) so I know the dealership will have my back like they have on other issues. I still chose the GC after reading all these posts. I feel confident that it is a great vehicle and when it is not, the dealer will make it right. The dealer has proven this fact several times when they did not have to by most standards.

Remember they are making 1,200 per day and the ones here represent just a small fraction (even if you take into account the many that do not say anything about their crappy fit/finish). Inspect the vehicle well prior to delivery and be realistic with your expectations.

If they were to total my GC that is being repaired - I would most definitely buy another one...

Re: Considering purchase of 2014 JGC Limited or Overland

July 2013 build JGC Limited with Lux II, 8.4 w/NAV, Tow IV and 20s...so far problem free. Have owned since Nov 2013. 5500 miles.

Began the search with BMW X3. Also drove Lexus, Acura and Subaru. Drove rental GMC Acadia. Researched Audi. Kept coming back to the Jeep and glad we did.

Re: Considering purchase of 2014 JGC Limited or Overland

Nice, I like to hear the positive feedback. I'm not really that picky, in fact I'd probably not even notice most visible build issues. Unless I was looking closely for them. I thought they looked great. I test drove three different ones. It's just the first of the vehicles I've been looking at that I found so many poor reviews. With similar issues.

I don't have an in with any dealers but I lease or one or two new vehicles every 2 to 3 years. IMO most vehicles are poor investments and by leasing I can write it all off. I've stuck with mostly Chevy, Toyota and Lexus. I did have a Jeep Liberty Renegade in 02. It was a nice little Jeep but a bit small for our needs at the time.

Still looking....
