Console area squeaking

Within the last couple thousand miles I've noticed an annoying squeaking noise coming from the cup holder/shifter area. You can hear it when accelerating from a complete stop and coming to a complete stop (the body flexing I guess). It gets very obnoxious during city driving which is pretty much all stop and go. I pressed down on the cup holders and confirmed that this is the noise, seems like it's the cup holders rubbing up against the plastic shifter cover. What do you guys recommend as a fix? Having the dealer replace the cup holders/cover? I've read about someone laying a thin bead of clear silicone to isolate the two pieces and keep them from rubbing against each other. My concern about this is having a chemical smell lingering in my car. I'm trying to hold on to that new car smell

Re: Console area squeaking

I am in the same boat as you, mine started about a month ago (i have 9000miles on a 2014 GC). It drives me crazy. The only way to make it stop is to apply downward pressure to the center console and/or cup holder. I haven't taken it to the dealer either but am about to that point.

I am open to any opinions as well.

Thank you ahead of time.

Water based caulking compound?

I wouldn't use silicone adhesive around any electronics, as most of it has fairly heavy acetic acid in it, and those acrid fumes that you smell aren't particularly good for electronics.
