Constant 12v

May sound a stupid questions however, is there any reason I can't use the + jump start terminal for a source of constant 12V in the engine bay?
Current draw will be approx. 20-40mA. So not expecting to drain the battery.

It will just save me putting an "add a fuse" in the engine compartment or going in to the cabin to get to the battery..

Just putting the question out there for a second opinion..

Cheers

Re: Constant 12v

Shouldnt be a problem but you would still want to run an inline fuse for protection

I'm installing a Couplertec electronic rust proofing system. The unit has an inline fuse.
While I'm still on the fence in relation to its effectiveness, I will try my best by regular washing after beach adventures and adding one of these units to keep the Jeep rust free for as long as I can..
I guess only time will tell.

Thanks for the input...

Re: Constant 12v

the only problem I see with using that 12V point, is should you ever use that terminal for battery charging or jump starts ?, it could blow the inline fuse to whatever new circuit your adding...It may not, but it could, so the possible down side would be you might have to replace a fuse, if you ever do that.....and as already mentioned, I would never add a circuit without an inline fuse included in it.

Re: Constant 12v

Too true.. I agree that is a potential issue, but I will mount the inline fuse holder next to that + terminal, so it will be easy to pull the fuse to the unit if required..
Touch wood, have not needed to jump start a vehicle for about 20years....

Appreciate your thoughts.... always good to have opinions from others
