It's a fair question and yes I am. I knew when I bought my 2014 that it'd be a risk simce that was the first year with that engine and trans in the US. I decided to risk it. I was getting repeared MILs for P20EE.

Other than the P20EEs it has been a great car. When they exchange my '14 for a '16 I hope it'll be much more reliable. My '14 never stranded me, though, and it always started and ran.

I stand by my raves in the OP, though.

Ahh, reason most buy them is:

1) You can buy a lifetime version, great idea if one intends to keep the Jeep
for a long period of time, say 10-15 yrs

2) With all the electronics, air suspension, and expensive drive train components, one failure can can easily cost thousands

3) If one keeps the Jeep long enough so that wear parts, example a starter,
pulley tensioner, altenator, suspension bit like a ball joint etc wear out,
one gets a cheap repair.

4) I would buy a equivalent maxcare lifetime on any OEM in this price range.

So buying a maxcare plan is not really IMHO stating Jeep quality sucks, just more like insurance, and I think I will at least break even when some of the wear parts fail, also you get he free towing and rental with the maxcare plan.

My worry about the lifetime warranty is that for how long will OEM parts be available. Parts like headlights, air suspension parts, infotainment systems, etc. I've owned some cars too long and found that getting good parts becomes an issue. How many headlight assemblies is Jeep going to stockpile to meet the demand? Is this version of air suspension going to be supported in ten years?

I've never leased a vehicle, but I'm beginning to feel like it's the better option considering the cost of repairs once the vehicle is off warranty. HAVING to add an extended warranty just pushes me that much closer to a lease.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

per parts,

You would be surprised, especially if you didnt but a 1 off flavor with a limited production run.

Since Jeep cranks 220K units of these things a year and will make them thru 2018, parts shoudnt be a issue.

Also parts bin engineering is a big plus, so for example, the U-connect/Nav is used in multiple cars, the transmission, the ""Confusing" shifter was also used on the LX's, door switches, overhead consoles, modules etc are probably also used, so a lot of commonality which means vendors will be making these for a long time.

I can still buy most stuff for my 00 Durango and 02 WJ from the dealer if need, although some is now refurbished stuff like PCM's but they do carry and warranty them

I was able to buy a lot of parts from mopar for my 86 Turbo Z, also if you network you can find stuff, exampe a guy who runs a Business in AZ, Turbos Unleashed got the last 10 Garret T2 turbos from Chrysler, I bought 2 of them off him.

My mom has had a subscription to CR for as long as I can remember. The rating system they use for cars is completely non-sensical. They rate sports cars every once in a while and give them bad ratings based on 'stiff suspension', 'wide tires allow tramlining', and 'loud exhaust'.

I remember the first Mazdaspeed MP3 was given bad reviews based on its Kenwood stereo system having buttons too small for old people to see, when the target consumer for that car was like 21-25 year olds.

Reminds me of the first time my brother rode in my 3/4 ton Chevy pickup. His first comment was "This thing rides like a truck". No $hit professor.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

The 2014 JGC had a lot of problems from what I have read. My 2015 model has been trouble free. In over a year of driving, we have not had to take it back for a warranty repair. It has been the most reliable vehicle we have ever owned among the 15 cars I have owned in the first year of ownership. CR makes a lot of mistakes. The worst car I have ever owned was a GM X car, which they recommended until they realized it was a dog. I convinced my brother and father to buy X cars and theirs were dogs too. CR didn't realize it. They make their reliability recommendations based on CR reader surveys. It's obvious if you read their surveys that they are anti American car and their readers probably reflect that. Look at any product and read the reviews. Every set of reviews is hostile to the product. I think most of their readers are hyper critical and don't like anything, unless it's made in Japan or Korea.

I use to read that mag all the time drove my share of foreign cars in the 1980 Era but as I got older and all our cars got better I bought American, every car they ripped on I owned and my jeep grandcherokee are they most reliable every ,CR is pretty anti American when it comes to cars

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

Bought my first JGC Overland V8 a little over a year ago. The original owner had 3 or 4 recalls done. It had 47K+ miles on it. I've put a little over 10K on it. It's been fun and flawless. The only problem has been a quirk where the door's unlock while it sits in my garage when I'm sitting next to it with the fob in my pocket. Hasn't happened when parked while we're out shopping, etc.

Since I'm 76, it's going to outlive me for sure.

Dan

Also when you out sell everything 2 to 1 in jeeps and mini vans you might have a few more things that need fixing

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

My wife's 1994 GC had 212,000 miles on it when we sold it and bought a 2006 which now has 155,000. Both had minimal problems and proved to be very reliable. I have a 2012 GC which just turned 100,000 also with minimal problem to date.

Prior to my 2012 GC I had a 98 Duragno which I sold fully operational = pass inspection with 365,000 miles on the OD.

Sooooooooooo, in my experience definitely NOT the worst of the worst.

Using CR to rate vehicles, to me, is like reading Autoweek to find a toaster review.
