Every single person I have ever talked to about Jeeps says they know someone who had one and they had constant problems with them. Same with the dodge brand, but their negativity about dodge seems to stem from the 70/80s.

I have had 3 dodges and no issues other than normal maintenance. Switching to GC once the 2017 model comes out

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

I think what gives, and I'm being serious now, is that the Grand Cherokee is one of the top selling SUVs. Combine that with Chrysler quality and well, the rest is clear. They pump so many out that the chances of there being lemons out there are higher, on top of the fact that they might be slightly less reliable than your average vehicle to begin with.

I've never had any serious issues with any of my 3 WK2s. They have been very reliable for my family.

Thats why I dropped CR subscription a while ago. Always and I mean always favor the imports. Do not seem like they even give the domestics a chance. I think the best way to stop them is to drop them.

Didn't they fall all over themselves giving the Impala their highest ratings in the last year or so? Did I dream that?

Ironically, the Toyota Camry, which they like, currently has the highest "US Made" content percentage of all passenger vehicles being made right now. Go figure. The concept of "imports" really doesn't hold as well any more. It's more about foreign owned brands, rather than manufacture. And that applies to our JGCs, too. Made in Detroit, but "technically" foreign owned.

Unless CR is outright falsifying results, or its subscribers are involved in a conspiracy, it is Jeep owners who are rating Jeep so poorly compared to owners of other vehicles.

It would be more likely that auto magazines that accept advertising would be biased.

Nothing for anyone who is happy with their Jeep to get their panties in a wad over.

I sometimes wonder if it's a mix - they tend to jump around a fair bit when it comes to recommended cars. Also, what was it I was reading once, that if it works great, no one says anything, but if something breaks, everyone complains? I love my Jeeps, I've had 3, coming up on 4 when my '16 gets here. I'll keep buying them, even though every one of them had its quirks. My parents are on their second, first was a Liberty, current one is a '15 GC. They were considering trading it in 3 months after they bought it and taking the hit on it because they had to have it towed when it wouldn't start. Wound up being a bad brake module or some such, wasn't picking up that the pedal was depressed so it wouldn't crank. They can't understand why I keep buying them, based on that "one" issue they had.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

This is wishful thinking on my part, but the silver lining from all this is that it may turn FCG's attention more towards its Quality Control issues. Just like many others here, I could't give a rat's behind what CR thinks but ultimately being ranked at the bottom despite its bias nature, does not sit well for reputation and prestige any way you look at it. My 15 Summit bought brand new off the dealer's lot has not given me one single problem at all after one year and over 18,000 miles. So keep on Jeeping!

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

I have never read the CR annual car review. My question is, is the poor rating for the JGC an overall rating, or is it broken down into individual components (e.g. electronics, engine, transmission, interior, etc.)? What is the major problem(s) driving these poor ratings? I understand that there were some transmission software issues for the 2014's released in early 2013. My current Jeep is a 2014 JGC limited (Jan. 2014 build date). It is the best combination of sporty looks, power, fit and finish, and (so far) reliability of any vehicle that I have ever owned. I decided not to get the extended warranty.

It's broken down. For the 2014 it's "Power Equipment" that's rated Worse than Average and "In-Car Electronics" Much Worse than Average. "Trans, Minor" and ""Fuel System" are rated Average. Everything else is rated Better than Average (5 items) or Much Better than Average (7 items including "Trans, Major"). Nevertheless, overall the vehicle is rated Much Worse than Average. I'm not sure but I think that's based pretty much on number of problems reported, even if they all fall in just one or two categories. (But it might be a "prediction.")

For the 2015 (early days for reporting, but there it is), it's Much Better than Average in almost every category. "Trans, Minor," "Noises/Leaks" and "In-Car Electronics" are rated only Better than Average.

I'm gonna take my chances on a '17.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

I don't pay CR no mind, mine has never leaked, never left me stranded, never had an electrical fault and is just a damn nice SUV I am proud of and proud I buy American. Its never failed me,i maintain it well and it takes care of me.I refer to my 2011 JGC the 2015 is too knew for an opinion yet.Our Liberty Limited rocks, and our old 1990 Wrangler with 200,000+miles still as strong as it was years ago.
I would rather ride a uni-cycle with no seat and take my chances with that than give up on Jeep.Damn reliable vehicles.Sure I have a lot of friends that own them too, they don't seem to have problems either.I guess due to the volume of sales to the amount of complaints puts Jeep high on the disappointment/lemon/repair issue scale.Hell,i am biased anyway.
IMHO a Jeep has never failed me,so I ignore magazines.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

This is usual stuff...people talk a lot about a car that had a problem...but they never talk about the millions of same car that dont have them.

Things happen, we all know that, so if it happened, get if fixed and you are ready to go.

In my case..GC 2014, 40k miles, lots of highway and offroad, and never an issue...my next car will definitely be a new Grand Cherokee.
