The feedback here would indicate that Jeeps don't have more problems, but that Jeep owners are the biggest cry babies. Owners of other brands must have learned to just suck it up.

Just sayin'

I know that Buick usually rates pretty high in CR. But that's because most of their customers are old and don't bother complaining. Also the fact that many don't use the infotainment system, so they don't notice when things don't operate properly. So CR views that as a reliable vehicle with few problems. But yes, most Jeep owners will complain about things that don't operate like they are supposed to. I figure for what these things cost, we have the right to complain.

I love rationalization.

I've owned two 2014 Grand Cherokees (Limited & Overland), both had transmission issues), so I would tend to believe CR.

FYI,
I have a 2014 GC Ltd. w/ 24K and absolutely NO problems.
I do have a Max Care 7yr./100K warranty
previous vehicle? a great Acura MDX
(it doesn't compare to the Jeep)
I hope I feel this way @ 100K

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

I'm on my 5th or 6th Jeep Grand Cherokee (lost count, but have the list in a file at home) and have owned one since the fall when they first came out in the 90's. All have been really great except the very first one had a number of warranty replacement stuff but back then a most vehicles had the same issues as quality was great back then, but was under warranty so no big deal. My 2006 GC had ZERO issues --- NONE whatsoever in 5 years. I'm planning on buying a 2017 GC (unless Tesla X gets my attention). Have loved owning Jeep Grand Cherokees --- perfect size, capability and performance.

My o8 gc has been pretty solid as well. The only things I can think of that went bad in it over the last 83,xxx miles is that the battery had died 3 weeks after I bought it. (Had 39,xxx at the time) and some where around 60k I had to replace the rear window motor. But that's really been it.

Mines modified pretty significantly for a 3.7 and all the little bugs from mods have been worked out so it's flawless now

IF CR does not like the vehicle, you can expect me to like it. I have owned 3 Touaregs (only the first year 2004 challenged my decision making process). It made my other two look trouble free but I enjoyed them all.

I would rather deal with some issues if my vehicle "puts a smile on my face". How about a passion factor? CR needs a circle for that.

Might be a wash. I had a Feb. 2013 build '14 Limited, never had a problem with the transmission.

I've had QC issues with every GC I've owned. 2012 had trim pieces loose on delivery and a bad seal on the windshield, my 2014 went through 3 sunroof motors and controllers and my 2016 will need the passenger door aligned (it's off by very little, but I can tell, so I'll just have 'em fix it when I take it in for the first oil change) and some of the door trim pieces aren't stuck on right. Mechanically, all of them have been solid though. My 2001 Cherokee had the heat soak TSB issues, but even she always got me home through thick and thin.

Jeep
Cherokee '14-15
Grand Cherokee '07, '10-14
Liberty '06
Patriot '08, '14
Wrangler '06-09, '12-13

These, according to CR, are the Worst of the Worst. Not only that, but the Grand Cherokee is listed in red which they say means it's Über Worst of the Worst. Especially terrible. Take a look.

What is wrong with CR? Do they use bad science? Is their data biased? My 2014 diesel is an excellent rig. It is my first Jeep, and I've been aware of CR rating Jeeps low year after year after year. I knew it was a risk buying Jeep, but after 2 years (and okay some teething pains with the diesel), my wife and I love this rig. It is a great rig. It is darn-near perfect. Since buying a Grand Cherokee I've noticed many older Grand Cherokees still on the road along with other Jeep vehicles, so they're out there, still running. And yes I realize the WK2 started in '11.

What gives?

I have a 2015 GC and they give it great marks. The predicted reliability is bad only because of the past. Jeep is getting better and in upcoming years this will get better marks. CR for years has been foreign car bias, especially the Japanese made cars. Now that cars are made everywhere they actually have to do their homework. They can't just sellout as much. Come on CR use your heads and not fill your wallet.

Re: Consumer Reports Apr 2016: WK2 the worst of the worst. What's wrong with CR mag?

My son had three Grand Cherokees. Then he leased a BMW X5. He has 3000 miles left on the lease and is looking at the new Grand Cherokee again. He absolutely hates the BMW....not comfortable, confusing electronics, many repairs, etc.

He drove my 2013 Overland with the Hemi and was mad as he!! that he didn't buy one....no more BMWs for him....or me!!!
