Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

You may be real, or you may be a Honda operative. There is no way for us to tell, especially since you are hiding behind a "screen name." That is a major problem with using the Internet, rather than talking with people face to face.

I've had one real problem with mine - the ignition switch falling inside the dash, but it was probably a bad piece of plastic or damaged during shipping of the part or assembly, and seems to be an isolated incident. The U-Connect upgrade did make it significantly faster to enter an address and otherwise better, and was easy to do without going to a dealership. I finally got the seat adjusted to suit me, and have become accustomed to it. The V8 and the 8-speed make for a superior driving experience.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

I can assure you I am not a Honda operative. If I had my Pilot here I would post a picture of it. I have always used lectricman on the other forums I belong to but if there is something I need to change to be more believable, tell me how to do it.

I need to replace my daily driver, an '03 Pilot and also need it to double as my new tow as I will be selling the Wrangler. Just don't need 3 vehicles. The GC fits the bill perfectly. I wanted an Overland bad, so much so that I put a deposit on one this weekend through the DC group buy. I wanted the new technology, the air suspension, heated wheel and those LED's. Man are they cool! Then my business partner asked me about the repair record. I was so impressed with the GC I neglected to do my homework on the truck itself. So I came across this forum and the other one and read about all the issues with the GC. I know about the trans problems on the V6, the Uconnect, and other troublesome issues. What a flashback to my '04 VW Toureg days. I'm also reading that the problems seem to be with the earlier builds and there have been multiple updates since, however it doesn't seem that brand new owners are reporting anything yet, at least I have not read about it. I'm quite cautious about the fact that owners are saying things like, "trucks been great so far with 10k on it" or "get the lifetime Maxcare Warr and don't worry about it"(paraphrasing here). Don't know about you all, but warranty or not, rental car or not, I don't need to be running back and forth to the dealer, assuming I've even found a competent one to service the truck. My Pilot has been flawless in the years that I've owned it. So, with 271,500 miles on it, I took back my deposit and dropped off the Pilot at my local transmission guy for them to put it's first replacement in this week. I will just keep driving it until something less boring than a new Pilot comes out. Don't get me wrong, my intention is not to bash the GC. I am actually REALLY disappointed about not getting the truck. I love everything about it but need a reliable driver and the Pilot has set the bar really high. It's not totally out as a choice of new vehicles, but until some real world good news about the GC comes out, it will just have to remain at the bottom of the pack. Now, unless you all can convince me otherwise....
All car companies have mistakes. Honda is no exception. You have already made up your mind so stick with your car.

Here are some examples of problems with the Honda Pilot:

1. 2004 Pilot EX - Climate Control Issue - Honda Pilot - Honda Pilot Forums

2. MASSIVE OIL BURNING 2003 Pilot 261k - Honda Pilot - Honda Pilot Forums

3. Cooling issue - Honda Pilot - Honda Pilot Forums

4. Power Steering pump issue - Honda Pilot - Honda Pilot Forums

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

Well, I will admit that I do consume a quart of oil every 4000 miles. Started about 30k ago. I use synthetic so it doesn't blow smoke out the tail. Not too bad for over 271k. Hardly what I would call massive. The fact that you brought up a car with 261k on it is great in itself. Regardless of the brand. I know all cars have problems and I do believe I got a good one because I know other Pilot owners who weren't as lucky as me. It is the luck of the draw sometimes.

I can't believe you posted a link to a story of a Honda having problems after 261k miles. Some of the posters on this forum have reported problems driving home from the dealership and many others have reported problems after less than 10k miles.

No doubt Honda makes great vehicles. I just can't see myself driving one...

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

I find it funny that anybody would take the time to join a forum for the first time, just to say I'm not going to buy the vehicle the site is dedicated to.

Who thinks their opinion is so important that anybody would care if they didn't buy a Jeep. It would be different if they had been here discussing the vehicle and based on that made a decision.

Everybody is welcome here, but joining a 'club' just to say I'm not going to join your club seems very strange. Before buying the Jeep I looked at Lincoln. Should I join a Lincoln forum just to tell them I bought a Jeep?

I don't think they would gara.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

99.99% of the problems you see are just software glitches that can be resolved by taking a trip to the dealer, and I'd say 95% of the Jeeps having problems are early builds. Almost all of the glitches have now been resolved. If you buy, just make sure the build date is August or later and your chance of having problems will decrease significantly. Will you probably have a problem if you buy a pre-August build? No, there is still only a small chance you run into issues.

Also, think about it this way. The Jeep is probably more likely to have problems than a new Honda. However, the chance that you have problems in both is extremely low. It isn't like half of the GCs coming off the assembly line are having issues, probably more like less than 1%. Also, as I said before, most of the problems can be fixed with a trip to the dealer and a software update or reflash.

Go for the Jeep. You will almost definitely not run into any problems, and if you don't buy it, you will regret it later.

Actually I joined this forum so I could learn as much as I could about the truck so I could make an educated decision. I could care less whether or not you think my opinion is important . I don't know you for it to matter to me. I made my post in hopes that maybe the majority of the members would reply with good news stories about their vehicles so I could justify buying one. It wasn't to brag about Honda or put down Jeep. I wanted to buy the GC but there is just too much negative news here. Since the topic is about quality, I thought this would be the best place to post. Maybe someone should start a topic "Good news stories about my JGC" so perspective buyers like myself can weigh the good with the bad.

Maybe that's the thread you should have started, instead of I took my deposit back and fixed my high mileage Honda.

I have an early build. I had some problems, but none that left me stranded. All issues were fixed while I waited, never more than a couple of hours. If I wasn't retired that might have been inconvenient, but I have a Kindle and like to read.

Since I don't own one, I'm not really qualified to start a thread like that. However, I guess I could start a topic that says" Perspective buyer looking for JGC good news stories"
