Actually, it was a supplier issue. Holes it the bumper were drilled incorrectly from the supplier.

Look at the EcoDiesel threads. There is not a single buyer that has a negative review. Every single review is a glowing review. The only people complaining in these forums are people with early builds. The people getting the Jeeps coming off the line now are more than impressed. Unfortunately there some of the first builds had some issues, and the people with those builds are the ones in this forum that are shouting the loudest. It is the ones with problems that you will hear from. It is a good thing that you are not hearing much about the newer builds, as this means people are happy with them.

Lightbulb Since When is Consumer Reports the Authority on Vehicles?

CR is much like the Internet sites that post "reviews" of various products, but has become outdated because there is little means of discussing problems with those who submitted them. At least the better online review sites usually provide some means of discussion (i.e., dialogue rather than monologue).

Is CR unreasonably biased? Maybe.

Is their bias intentional? Maybe, at least to some extent and based on how they choose to gather and interpret the available data.

Is CR the best of the magazines with which to review a product and make decisions? Probably not anymore. Heck even thirty or more years ago, CR did a review on a small Chrysler vehicle, and slammed it because one of their "test drivers" claimed to have jerked the steering wheel to one side, then let go of it, and was disappointed because the car almost went out of control. Well, DUH... way to go there, Sparky!

I still maintain that the best way to go is to take various opinions strictly as opinions with likely unknown (there are probably few psychics among us) motives. Drive what you like, choose a dealer that provides excellent service after the sale at a reasonable price, and go with it. If the vehicle works out well (both of our WK2's were built before August, 2014, had no problems, but we were never surveyed by CR).

Most vehicle owners are loyal (some are fiercely loyal) to the brand they drive - we will not be able to change that, nor should we want such a change.

It wasn't to brag about Honda or put down Jeep. I wanted to buy the GC but there is just too much negative news here. Since the topic is about quality, I thought this would be the best place to post. Maybe someone should start a topic "Good news stories about my JGC" so perspective buyers like myself can weigh the good with the bad.
Me too. Though I own 2 Chrysler vehicles both have been excellent overall but still seem to have more bugs to start with. However, I have 323,000 on my '01 Durango with zero engine/trans issues to date..only minor repairs along the way the biggest being the AC compressor at 285,000.
But still, I too want to know before buying like you if there are real issues, or are they ones that have been addressed like fit and finish or software updates. Part failures would be very troublesome, but I have not seen that to date.
I will mention that I have owned many Japanese vehicles and test drove the Pilot. The road noise alone would prevent me from buying one! Its higher in the new ones than my '01 Durango let alone the new JGC/Durango!

If you are hoping to hear some good news stories I can help you. We ordered a 2014 Overland 6 cylinder with the technology package. It was built in early August and delivered in mid August. Presently we have about 6,000 miles on the vehicle, about equally divided between highway and city driving.
To date we have had zero issues with anything on the vehicle. It performs flawlessly and is a pleasure to drive.

I carefully inspected the fit and finish before taking delivery based on some posts relative to misalignment of rear hatches etc. I found the fit and finish to be excellent and equal to some much more expensive european vehicles we have owned over the years. The 8 speed tranny shifts beautifully and is silky smooth. The adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitor work very well. ( I did get a notice to bring it in for a calibration of the adaptive cruise control sensor which I will do when I get a chance)

We looked at BMW, Mercedes and VW before deciding on the Overland. We are extremely happy with our choice. I hope you are equally happy with whatever you choose.

HUH? You are saying the assembly plant should redrill the holes? Sorry but that is not how it works in real life. You need to take the tour at JNAP and see how the Grand Cherokee is assembled in real life. Your expectations are unrealistic.

So far, thank you all for your positive comments. That's what I need to help swing the pendulum.

Jeep could have put the vehicles in a holding yard until the vendor provided properly drilled bumpers.

Of course you would have people screaming about their Jeep being on hold past the estimated delivery date, threatening legal action.

The person who has to make the decision whether to ship or hold has to walk a very fine line. I'm just happy its not me.

I am saying they should not ship a car with an incorrectly attached bumper and should be rejecting the bumpers before they even get to the assembly line. It's called quality control. All auto plants should have it.

Ditto. V8 Limited, similar build date. It "suffers" from the "4 click lift gate". The vehicle recognition of me for auto entry and locking improved dramatically once I moved the key fob to the pocket without my iPhone.

Other than that, 3300 miles, been great so far. If there's updates pending, I have not installed them yet. I've not had a need to return to the dealer.

There is no update yet for the "4 click to open liftgate" problem that many 2014 WK2's are experiencing. Chrysler has been working on the problem for over 9 months now. The latest I heard from STAR is a update may be out by the 1st quarter of 2014. But it already got moved 2 quarters already, so I would imagine it will happen again.
