Thanks. And sorry. I HATE talking about money and seeming ostentatious, but I thought it was necessary to get my point across. Once I calm down I will go back and edit that out, or at least make it sound less horrible.

By the way, have you decided if you are buying a 2014 or waiting? Last I saw you were considering waiting so that the bugs get worked out. I think the bugs are pretty much worked out at this point, but (if you aren't in a rush) there is no harm in waiting a little longer to make sure the last few bugs are ironed out. Besides, you might see the appearance of a new feature or two, as well as a few new colors.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

I noticed that the February Consumer Reports rates the 2014 Durango as tied for best rating, but not recommended as it is "too new." If the 2014 Durango is "too new to rate," the 2014 Grand Cherokee should also be "too new to rate."

The entire push button switch assembly broke off and fell inside the dashboard! I suspect it was a one of a kind problem due to a bad part or mishandling at the factory. The dealer damaged the wood molding tot he right of the center stack when making that repair, but that has now been replaced and I'm over 7,200 miles.

They do. However, JIT manufacturing has shifted the individual parts QC to the supplier --- and they are ALL doing this. There often times isn't a QC step in the plant for individual parts before they are assembled into the vehicle.

The parts supplier does the QC inspection before shipping the parts to the plant. The supplier contract usually specifies penalties and the sort for bad parts batches.

JGCs began shipping 1Q2013. When did Durangos first ship? If the number of surveys returned to CR is inadequate, they can't rate reliability.

After 3 months of ownership it's obvious why the GC was dropped. I've never had so many issues with a new car. My old beater had fewer issues. By far the worst jeep I've owned. All the bells and whistles can't make up for the lack of QC and multitude of problems that I've encountered. I never thought I'd disown the jeep brand after years of ownership, but I'll be moving on. It's a real shame.

Consumer Report are good for vacuum cleaners. I am sure even after the newest problem with the famous car maker they will continue to recommend them.

I had a first generation first model year (1993) of the Grand Cherokee. I too was concerned about all the newness, but 17 years and 170K miles later I was still very confident camping in the desert and braving a high Sierra blizzard.

Which I why I had no concerns getting the first model year of the fourth generation Grand Cherokee. After 3 years not a single issue on a fully loaded Overland. Last weekend I was still having fun adding a CAI to my new 38-month old Jeep.

My Corvette had a lot of issues, and repeat issues. I sympathize with the frustration of an expensive vehicle that you want to be excited about having a long list of problems. But that has not been our experience with the combined 37 years of Jeep ownership!

You mean like the misaligned body parts inside and out? Or tire shimmy? Or air suspension issues? Or quad touch key fobs? I could go on here but you get the idea. There were many issues starting out, denying that is as silly as denying that the newer builds seem to be doing much better.

Even as late as the diesel introduction many of the owners were/are still reporting badly aligned panels, carpet loose in the foot wells, and so on, I would not say they are out of the woods yet. Mine was built on 2 Dec 13 and has had no issues. Some of the panels could be better aligned but most are of the "wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't looking for it" variety.

I'll be curious to see what they say about the diesel version they picked up as they noted that it was "already a staff favorite" when they announced it had been taken on.

Have you gave your dealership/dealerships ample time to fix your issues?

Does three separate attempts to fix the same issue qualify as ample time?

I didn't spend 50K on a car to have weekly visits to the dealership. Consumer reports nailed it unfortunately.
