Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

I am on my 3rd JGC, and can say they have been some of the most reliable vehicles I or any of my family have ever owned.

If you didn't do it yet, make sure your dealer notifies Chrysler that your 2014 WK2 is doing this. Seems like most folks aren't mentioning this to their dealer so Chrysler isn't in any hurry to find a fix.

Their "fix" was to replace the hub assembly on all wheels and replace the tires. It actually made the car worse.

Just waiting for the replacement to be found.

I was referring to folks that have the problem of the keyfob requiring 4 clicks (instead of the 2 clicks) to operate the liftgate. Most don't bother to mention this problem to the dealer, so Chrysler isn't getting many complaints about it and not looking into the problem. I understand they have many more problems to address on the 2014 Grand Cherokees (that's what happens when you release a product to early before putting the proper R&D into a vehicle before dumping it into the market and seeing what happens), but its been nearly a year that they have known about this problem, but nothing has been done yet.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

Bobs WK2,

This is how my 2014 Overland 3.0 works. If the vehicle is LOCKED either by pushing the lock on the FOB or by pushing the little chrome button on the drivers/passenger front doors.......The tailgate requires 2 double clicks(4 clicks as you put it) to open. I love this feature!! Mine was built in Jan. 2014 and I just assumed this was Chryslers FIX for all the early model year Jeep GC owners who were experienced walking out to their Jeeps only to find the tailgate wide open. It was speculated this was occurring because the FOB tailgate button was being inadvertently pushed while in the owners pocket. One solution other forum members offered was to buy a FOB specific sleeve/case which required more effort to push the buttons. So when I brought my new ride home 5 weeks ago I double clicked the tailgate and nothing happened and I thought damn it doesn't work. I pushed it again quickly and presto it opened. So I smiled to myself and thought Chrysler engineers came up with a very simple solution to the phantom tailgate open syndrome. The double clicks have to be done in quick succession or you have to start from scratch. The odds of accidently doing the 4 clicks(in quick succession) while in the pocket is very remote (no pun intended)......................HOWEVER..........If the vehicle is UNLOCKED it only requires a single double click to open the tailgate. FWIW that is how mine works and personally I love the feature.

JGC is officially out of contention for our September buy. Too many red flags from multiple sources. Jeep - you've got major QC issues. Best of luck all. Bye-bye.

The early builds had the issues. The current builds do not have the issues that the first ones had. Too bad for you, as you will be missing out on a great vehicle.

September buy?
Heck, that would be 2015 model yr production.
I certainly hope they have all the bugs worked out by then. All this reminds me is to be cautious on 1st yr builds from anyone, especially with all the high tech going into cars/trucks these days.

The fact you posted this on multiple threads is pretty humorous. Thanks for the info?

Bob,

Are you close to the Jeep when opening the liftgate? I came across something that referred to being within 3 feet of the tailgate before pressing the button.

I was in the section on unlocking.

Chrysler will do just fine without you. Planning on buying in September, haha> OK.

Never put any faith in consumers reports. And the sampling of people that complain on the internet is much larger than the ones who log onto an enthusiast site to talk about how happy they are. Ford haters have entire websites devoted to hating thier sync system, etc. If you research, you will find complaints about every make and model on the road.

Let me say Im happy with my 14JGC Overland, it is a wonderful vehicle and competitive in the price/option category which it resides in.
