When I only perform the 1st double click, I can hear the module(s) in the vehicle waking up, but the liftgate doesn't open. When the 2nd double click is performed, then the liftgate opens. I have a feeling one or more of the modules in the vehicle is faulty.

I also occasionally have the problem where I lock the drivers door using the door lock switch on the armrest. As the vehicle is locked, I then close the door and as I walk away, the vehicle unlocks itself. Sometimes I can be 25 feet away when I hear it unlock itself. Also doesn't matter which pocket I keep the Keyfob in, it still will do it. I then use the keyfob to lock it which is annoying since I have it set to sound the horn on locking. But at least then I think it stays locked. My previous 2012 Overland operated perfectly for both of the above situations. Never a problem.

Also occasionally, as I near the vehicle at times from 10-20 feet away, the vehicle unlocks itself. Obviously happens before I could possibly reach the door handle.

Other than that, which is annoying since the vehicle is nearly a year old, I love the vehicle. I just wish Chrysler would take some time and do some research on this problem. My dealer can't do anything because when they contact Chrysler about this problem, Chrysler doesn't have a clue what to do. It's really sad.
I always use the button on the exterior door handle if I lock the car.

What I don't understand is how the inside lock is supposed to work, since you are not supposed to be able to lock the fob in the Jeep.

They are reading the (incorrect) manual to you. Those are the same clueless bunch that gave canned and incorrect answers about everyone's order status back when we were waiting for shipping to begin. There is more knowledge among users on this forum than you will find there. Sad but true....and typical of today's technology companies. At least they don't have heavy Indian accents!

All you need to do is look at the fob to know that Bob is correct. If you look at the button for the tailgate it says "x's 2".

I think Bob is overly concerned with having to press a button a couple of extra times ... but he is absolutely correct.

Does ANYBODY'S MY14 GC function on the 1st x2 click with the doors locked and electronics "asleep" like Bob wants it too? The FOBs do work with x2 presses if the vehicle is unlocked and the electronics are awake.

It is what it is. I doubt it will be "fixed". It is confusing but not broken.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

If it is a case of having to wake up the vehicle it would need to do the same for remote start. That always works with 2 clicks.

For the tailgate I usually just grab the handle and leave the fob in my pocket.

Now if I could get the flipper glass to open with 4 clicks ...

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

CR ratings seem pretty dodgy to me. I compared their GC ratings as listed in their 2013 buying guide and in their April '14 magazine issue. Take the 2011 model, for instance. In the April issue, the 2011 GC (both V6 and V8) is rated 'much worse than average' (black dot). Yet in the buying guide printed just a few months earlier, the 2011 GC (both V6 and V8) is rated 'average' (clear circle). This latter rating is given despite the vehicle receiving above average marks in 13 out of 17 component categories.

Consumer Reports ratings make about as much sense as "Green Eggs and Ham": both appear to be works of fiction.

What I've found is it takes four clicks to open the rear door if the vehicle's doors are still locked, but it takes only two clicks if the drivers door at least is unlocked.

Re: Consumer Reports Drops Grand Cherokee Recommendation

Mine unlocks and opens with 2 quick clicks. I have my JGC set to unlock all the doors with one click unlock. (others may be set to unlock just the drivers door first). I never really paid attention to this, until I read this thread. I was at the store yesterday, and with the doors locked, only had to click twice and the rear hatch opened. I was in the store for about 15 minutes.

That means its working incorrectly. To operate the liftback using 2 clicks on the keyfob, it should operate the same whether the vehicle was locked or unlocked, and parked unattended for 1 minute to whatever. It doesn't matter. It should always operate the liftgate after 2 clicks are applied to the keyfob. Any variation and its not operating as designed. This straight from Chrysler Upper Level Care.

No one at Chrysler wseems to know how long it should take for the vehicle to go to sleep. So in your case, 15 minutes may not have been long enough. The real test is after the vehicle has been parked overnight, and without unlocking or if the vehicle was unlocked, opening any doors, then it should open the liftgate with 2 clicks. Problem is many do not but the owners don't notice the problem.

I use the button on the interior of the door, as I am opening the door to get out. Just habit I guess.

I think it is more a case of most people just don't think it is worth complaining about. Mine will sometimes open on 2 after sitting all night. Sometimes it takes 4 after being parked for 15 minutes. I test it once in awhile just see what it is doing.

I was watching a video on TFLcar (or something like ) where they test drove a Cherokee Trail Hawk. The guy attempted to open the lift gate with the remote. He looked down at the fob when it didn't open, clicked again, and it opened. He didn't mention it in his wrap up.
