Cracked door glass

Has anyone had the glass in the front passenger door just crack? Mine seems to have cracked for no reason. The crack appears to start down in the door and runs up to almost the top of the glass. I can't feel the crack as it appears to be between the two peices of glass (Laminated). Does this sound like a defect? Should I speak to the dealer?

Re: Cracked door glass

Door window glass is tempered and cannot crack without completely shattering.

If there is an internal film between 2 pieces of tempered glass then that is different.

The front door windows and Command View sunroof are laminated just like the windshield for noise reduction. So if it did break, it wouldn't shatter like most automotive window glass.

Re: Cracked door glass

You'll have a hard time proving it is it is a defect. My father owns a glass business and glass has never broken without an event or stress on the glass. Hopefully they can determine it was the glass support that case the crack and replace it. Otherwise you are looking at $400+ for that piece since it is laminated. A regular (non laminated) door glass would be $125.

Make them run their fingers on the inside and outside showing them there was no strike and be persistent it is a defect that caused it.
