Cracked Windshield, Too Thin?

On the way to work today, noticed a foot long crack in the windshield near the top behind the rear view mirror. Got out and looked, there is no Star from an impact of a rock but the tiniest knick from what seems a pebble hit. Can barely tell, I mean it is tiny. I also read about other owners getting cracks as well, seems to me that the WK2 windshield is too thin.

Re: Cracked Windshield, Too Thin?

The same thing happened to my summit... The crack was inside the glass, not from a rock.. It started around the rearview mirror and was a long curved crack down the middle. The windshield was replaced for free under warranty.

It is most likely because of stones are too hard and big All my cars got these problems, roads are horrible here in NJ/NY area...

Re: Cracked Windshield, Too Thin?

how do you make the jump from "I got a crack in the window" to "Jeep/Chrysler is skimping on the glass and making it too thin"? The window in my Jeep isn't cracked, maybe Jeep is making the glass too thick.

Re: Cracked Windshield, Too Thin?

We seem to crack every windshild on the more upright SUV and truck glass, as objects big and small tend to get a more perpendicular hit. Even raked glass in sports cars take a beating here in CO.
