I'm not a dealer, but I know a lot of dealerships and dealership personnel through prior business relationships. IMHO dealerships get a bad rap and aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be, and a lot of consumer's negative experiences wind up being brought on from their own behavior and preconceptions. They go in expecting a negative experience, and thats what they get.

Anyways, I think I made it pretty clear that I was not defending the dealer. All I said was ALL dealers sell service in prepackaged bundles, and thats a fact. Its common dealer practice, its how they make money. Doesn't mean its "right" or "wrong" its just business. Just tell them to do specifically what you want done and nothing more. Had my first oil change at the Jeep dealer, they tried to sell me a prepackaged bundle...I said thanks but no thanks all I need is an oil change and tire rotation. No big deal. They put a sticker on the window to come back in 3k miles...I just removed it. No big deal.

At 3k miles it doesn't need serviced. But...why would you be afraid? You're the consumer, go in with your maintenance schedule and tell them what you want done. Oil change and tire rotation at 8k miles...$70 or so probably. If they try and pressure you into more...say no...or leave...

If they are to address a malfunction, they would be. For instance there is a thread in this forum that addresses an update, and it fixes a problem with the navigation unit forgetting where "home" is. That should be covered under warranty, but the reality is that it's probably easier for many of us to do it ourselves.

I'm afraid because I hate hassle. And I don't have the time for it. And where I live they mostly deal with stupid people so they think everyone's that way. Me and my husband have talked about taking it out of town to get serviced but you have to be 21 to get a loaner .

Re: Crooked Dealer

You can also take it to an independent mechanic, you don't have to take it to the dealership. You can even take it to one of those quick lube places, although that wouldn't be my first choice.

My dealer has a quick lane type deal for oil changes where you don't even need an appointment. Very little hassle. In my experience anyways, when you have the info and it's obvious, people realize you aren't stupid and stop trying to treat you that way.

To save bandwidth, let's just post when we find a quality dealer who doesn't try to overcharge you for everything from oil changes to pepsi in the waiting room

A software update is always to correct an issue and it is warrenty. If you look at any of the Tsb's they are always warrenty and it has the amount they can charge for the update. Dealers do get paid for it I think if I remember correct it is .2 hours.

Yeah, but do they put 2012 jeep SRT8 owners in dodge journeys come service time?

Before you defend the practice of crap loaners I should probably mention the fact that I'm just joking. Haha. Wasn't that hilarious?

Re: Crooked Dealer

I'm sure they do, and I'm sure they would only get a loaner for significant warranty work. I bought mine at Darcars in Silver Spring and it had to go back for a warranty thing and they gave me a Compass.
