Crossed 1000 miles, no major issues, a few nitpicks

Just crossed 1000 miles. Fortunatley my only problem's are related to the uconnect freezing and rebooting. I'm holding out this is just a software issue and will be addressed eventually.

The positive's:

I like the 23+ gallon tank as I can go about 400 miles between fill ups. My previous car, 2008 Mazda CX-9, only got about 15.8 MPG and I was having to fill up every 280 miles or so.

The ride on my Overland really smooths out the uneven roads, manholes and other road imperfections. I assume this has a lot to do with QL, but haven't driven a limited

Steering is sharp and tight

Auto locking doors and auto unlock. Both features my 2008 Mazda CX-9 didn't have believe it or not.

iPod interface works really well.

Well lit interior, door handles, buttons, footwells, etc.

I can lock the doors with the fob even if one is open. So if my kids are still climbing out I don't need to wait to hit the lock button. My Mazda would beep 5 times if you hit the lock button before all the doors were closed. Very annoying.

"Live" icons on uconnect are cool.

The nit picks:

I find the headlights to be much weaker than my Mazda, especially on high beams. The Mazda had xenons for the low beam and halogen with the high beam. Two lights are better than one. Also the Jeeps color seems to be more yellow than the mazda's xenons.

Having to hit HD for the radio station everytime I start the car. If HD is available why not play it? Or at least have the presets remember that station is HD and switch to it automatically.

Not having access to the vent controls with a hard button, ie switch from air coming from mid-level vents to windshield and heater with the touch screen is distracting.

I find the driver's seat to be uncomfortable. I feel like I am sitting on the bolster closest to the door to be centerered in front of the steering wheel. I"m not a big guy, 5'10" 160 pounds.

Eco mode tends to upshift too quick and then causes the engine to struggle on gradual to steep uphill slopes.

The EVIC should display the song for both Sat radio and iPod.

EVIC is off 5% on MPG prediction. EVIC says 18.1, my calcs give 17.2MPG.

I would rather have the up/down buttons on the steering wheel go through the presets than tune. I usually flip between three presets so the one button in the center doesn't work well for that.

Combined presets for Sat radio and FM radio would be nice.

No options to have mirrors fold when locking the door, and automatically unfold after opening driver's door like wife's Mercedes

Option in the EVIC to display trip info and digital speed readout would be nice.

Uconnect system reboots or freezes up randomly. Sometimes it is multiple times a week, other times it is once or twice a week.

A third trip computer that automatically resets if the car isn't drven after 3-4 hours. My VW had this and it was nice to monitor how long it took to get to work and MPG without having to remember to reset if everytime.

Access to seat heaters with a hard button.

Rear vent flow is pretty weak on a hot day.

It seems I have to use max fan speed way more than I ever did with my previous vehicles. The fan needs to go up to 10 not 7!

Outside temperature doesn't update for a while if the car has only been off a couple hours. Apparently this is by design, but is stupid. My 2001 VW didn't have this issue. Have the car say 50 when it's 70 outside looks pretty dumb.

Blanks on the steering wheel. I wish I got the tech package.

Can't roll up the windows by holding down the lock button on the fob.

You can select preset using voice command.

You can switch the speedometer to digital with the steering wheel buttons (if that's what you meant)

I'm not sure what trip info you are looking for, but the two trip odometers provide more than just miles driven.

In the VWs there is a view for fuel consumption, trip duration, and miles driven that automatically resets. If you drive to the store or a bunch of quick errands, it will continue to tally your entire round trip start to finish. Once off for a few hours, it resets.

Hopefully your MPG will get better...unless you're doing all city.

I haven't gotten under 500 miles on a tank yet and my best was 580. I have no doubt that I can get 600 out of a tank all highway. I love the range!! Would much rather spend $80 or $90 per fillup less often.

Jeep has trip duration, miles, and MPG. With the last two you can figure the fuel consumption. And, you do have to press the reset button. Of course, on a multi-day trip I wouldn't want the auto reset.

I did like the option on my last car to reset one of the trip odometers whenever you gassed up.

Maybe we have too many gadgets

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed but I think it has a lot to do with my commute. I have about 600 feet elevation change between my house and work. I get about 25 according to the EVIC on my trip into work, but by the time I get home it is only 18. That 18 according to the EVIC is about 17.1 in real life it appears. I'm going to switch to synthetic around 3000 miles. Maybe that will help, although it didn't do anything for my mazda. My mazda only got 15.8 over the 50,000 miles I owned, so it's an improvement at least.



It seems every new car I want to have the features I liked about the previous ones and fix the complaints I had about the last one.

Changed my oil today as I wanted to look at the filter for FO. None were found !!!
At 1870 miles, only issues are need another new dash pad and I discovered that my
rear window heat is not working. Love the range and fuel mileage.

If you're like me and live in SW Portland, the elevation changes sure do put a damper on fuel mileage. I do quite a bit of driving up and over West Hills into downtown and it sucks the gas pretty good.

23 gallon tank? I thought they were all 26 gallon, regardless of model.

Interesting observation about the headlights. In comparison to other car's I've owned, I find them to be above average. Is there a difference in headlights between models? My Summit has a very cool temperature and awesome high beams.

Like someone else said, you should be able to toggle back and forth from a digital speed readout and a traditional gauge.

I wonder if there's something wrong with your fan? I keep mine on the 2 setting and barely change it (granted, it hasn't gotten very hot here yet).

I agree with you on the steering feel and ride quality. Very crisp and smooth, and body lean is controlled without being too stiff.

I'm in NW Portland, in the west hills at 800 ft, and drive down to Hillsboro for work. I double checked and it's a 24.6 gallon tank, and the most I have put in is 23.4. Around 23 is what I'm assuming is the capacity without risking running it dry.

I'll have the dealer checkout the fan when I need to take it in for something more major to see if it is out of spec.

I can switch between the traditional speedo which has the benefit of putting the trip computer in the center, but once you switch to the digital readout you lose the trip computer. That's my nit pick. I would like the digital readout + trip computer display.

You're summit has the articulating headlights. They may be better than my overlands which are only self leveling.

Wave if you see a maximum steel overland in the west hills. It may be me!

Just to add more options to it, the 8.4N uconnect system also has an additional trip computer, with more stats, even giving the average speed for your trip, top speed hit, etc. I think it is in the navigation set of menus. I have not tested it extensively, but I think it does reset after a set amount of time being off.
