Re: Damaged during shipping?

If there has been no repairs on it....i.e., body work, paint, or even an adjustment then perhaps something did happen but would be minor right? I'd then just have the panels adjusted. It is doubtful that quality control wouldn't catch it at the factory since they use lasers and stuff for tolerances. So would have to be post factory. If minor and no paint work....I'd just have it adjusted.

If there were no repairs on it then perhaps it was so minor that no one noted it or no one even knew anything happened.

I would definitely pull up the vehicle history to see if anything was noted.

If it was painted....I'd look really really really close to see if it is acceptable. I'd be inclined to want a different one if paint was redone.

To have two body guys zero in on it immediately would have me spooked a bit too and would investigate it....

Re: Damaged during shipping?

Really sorry to hear about all this however like everyone else said, PLEASE bring it back to them and try to get them to give you an answer. I'm sure you don't want to return the vehicle since you've waited so long for it and i'm also sure you want to get it repaired AND i'm guranteed you don't want the dealer to send it to their bodyshop. So only solution is involve the dealer and get it repaired by your friend (with your dealers permission). This way warranty won't be void.

Once again, i'm sorry to hear and I hope you solve this problem with ease.

Actually, now that you scared me, i'm going to go home and run my finger through all the gaps (hood/fender/door).

Re: Damaged during shipping?

Dan im with you if it is just an adjustment im keeping it. I have an appt with my other friend tonight for him to look at it. If there is an issue then to the dealer it goes tomorrow. Like I said before I want it confirmed before going to the dealer and crying wolf.

If friend number 2 says there are issues then off to the dealer tomorrow and see how to rectify the situation if there is a situation. Like I said if anything its just adjustments to the front clip. The only other issue we can see is and I finally see it this morning, a very light vertical crease just forward of the fuel cap. I think that is manufacturer stamping issue that they never caught. That one im not even going to bother with since I can barely see it and I dont want the truck to now have to require filler and new paint. Not worth it. Its not a BMW so it not gonna be perfect either.
Um, not to burst anyone's bubble but .... I've owned a number of BMWs, including my rare E28 M5 which I still have (coming up on 24 years!). Not too long after I purchased the M5, I had a detailer point out to me that the hood was repainted.

It probably was done to cover up cosmetic shipping damage - there was nothing mechanically wrong with the hood. I was somewhat annoyed about it, but had to admit that my untrained eye had not noticed the difference in the paint.

In a few years, the paint on the hood cracked, unlike the rest of the car which was fine. About that time, an idiot backed into the M5 (in a parking lot) and damaged the driver side door - so I had the body shop repaint the hood while they were doing the door, so it didn't cost me too much.

Moral of the story: Trust no dealer (nor manufacturer) - if you think there's an issue you need to pursue it!

Really sorry to hear this. I know how long you waited and what the waiting is like. Now that I have heard this, I have a cousin who has a body shop and when I get mine, I may have him take a look at it.
If this may have been just cosmetic, I would be sure it was well documented and if there are any mechanical problems that arise later and could be attributed to the damage, you may have a leg to stand on for repairs. Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Damaged during shipping?

No, Sammzway, not yet. I am very frustrated!!! It is still in JB and at the plant. I am really wondering why now. At first I thought it was just for the chrome package, but now, hearing this, I am worried and the other factor is I have my '96 sold, but how long will my buyer wait??? I need my Jeep NOW!!!! Any ideas to get it moving??? Unfortunately, Milous has no ideas for me either. I really thought that it would go KZ this week and move on to me, but no such luck yet!!!

I was on the same boat as you. We had sold my wife's car and was without a car for a week. What I did was called the dealer and told them we needed a car right away. If they couldn't provide us with either a rental (which they pay for) or the GC we ordered within two days, we'd cancel the order and go with a different dealership that has a vehicle (similar to what we ordered) in their lot. Long story short they went and got the GC and we received it 2 days later. I would push the dealer and bust their chops in a very nice way and keep threatening them.

Also, from what my salesman told me, Chrysler is going after customer satisfaction hardcore. 1 bad review to Chrysler after a purchase can really hurt dealerships now. So my salesman begged me to give him a 100% positive feedback or else he loses out on a certain percentage of commission (that's what he told me). Anyway I was totally satisfied so I gave them 110%. So keep calling them and show up and let them know you're frustrated and need a car ASAP.

Re: Damaged during shipping?

^^^ Her's is still in Michigan and hasn't been released. I would call the dealer and demand that they either explain the delay or get a special authorization to get it moving through the regional rep....it has been built for nearly a month and a half...that's just crazy now.

Re: Damaged during shipping?

So went to my other friends shop tonight. We looked underneath the truck and didnt really see any damage any where. The front right fender is a little higher than the door we found as well. All in all I think its more very poor quality control than anything else. I spoke to the dealer today and my Sales manager was at a meeting. I spoke to another manager who was civil and agreed that there were serious issues with the quality of the truck. He started to say Oh we can fix it, I politely cut him off and said no he wont. I explained why i dont want them to fix it being it would now have a repair history as if it was in a fender bender and I didnt want some cheap skate body shop hacking away at my brand new 50K truck! So He understood but he wasnt the one to make the final call. So I made it very clear I would take care of all the issue and return I want skid plate, tow hooks, and chrome side steps.
So all in all its a matter of a waiting game now so hope to hear back from them tomorrow with some sort of resolve.
Will keep you guys posted!

Nice tactics. If you walk away with all that (especially chrome side steps) and get your buddies to button up the body work, SCORE!

Re: Damaged during shipping?

Just noticed if you guys go to my Got summit thread look at pic 6 of 8. You can make out the gap on the drivers side of the hood/fender and no gap on the pass. side. Its not the angle of the pic either, one side is gapped and the other side is tight.
