Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

Thanks! I just tried that and I can shut the engine off when in Neutral too. The ignition goes into accessory, and the N Flashes on the Console and on The dashboard display.

I have to agree I want no one in the interior.

I go to one in Baltimore often. I have seen them send it through unoccupied, and then the last time someone stayed in through the wash. I think, and I have to test, but if you start the vehicle dont buckle up, you can put it in neutral and open the door. without it going into Park

Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

I bought this on amazon. Just keep it buckled in at all times.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I go through car wash all the time and the car wash attendants just treat the car normally. Before I bought this, there was one guy who knew the deal. He put the car on the tracks and closed the door in park. Then he would reach in with that long vacuum hose and push in the brake while putting it in neutral - all of this while reaching in through the window. First time I saw it I was impressed, but then I quickly said to myself: "This is never going to happen again. He just rubbed his shirt/jacket all against my door and probably scratched the paint"

Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

My '17 SRT goes through an auto wash at least once a week, absolutely zero issues. I even have had the keys in my pocket once or twice...

Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

This has been an interesting thread. I don't go to car washes often, but did a couple months back and they said with my vehicle I had to go through with it. Wasn't sure why, but I get it now.

Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

Can someone again summarize what exactly we are supposed to do when running a JGC 4WD (two-speed transfer case) through a car wash where you sit in the car the entire time?

Do we put the transmission AND/OR the Quad-trac transfer case into neutral?

I am also curious as to what we do if we cannot sit in the car?

If you sit in the car just put it in neutral and your all set. The wash I use doesn't want you in it. They just buckle the drivers seat belt, put it in neutral and let it go through. If the belts buckled it won't auto-park.

I use the hand wash, but it still rolls on tracks through the carwash. Never heard of that story.
My key stays with me the car stays running. I'm usually on the other side of the glass taking pictures every time. I swear i try not to, but can't.

Re: Dangers of a Grand Cherokee in a Car Wash

I take mine to an automated wash where you have to get out while it goes down the line and they just have someone ride inside. I never have anything valuable inside that anyone would want to steal when I go through there.

I live in Pennsylvania and they do not require you get out of the vehicle . But recently had the JGC washed in NJ where they did and the car jumped the track causing the track to jump off. Jeep unharmed. What is the purpose of getting out?
