Re: Dash Issue - New car on lot

Agree. That's the thing that makes me unsure - the aftermath may be worse than this.

If it remains as is, I would be fine. My only concern is if it gets worse. Based on the nature of it, I'm not sure I would expect that it does worsen.

The ripples/lifting seem to be more concerning and prone to degradation than this.

The dealer is calling me this afternoon with their update, so we'll see

I agree with Jeepgrady. If it bothers you, PASS. I had the OBD recall done and they are now replacing 4 panels they scratched up when doing the recall. Stuff is not aligned right either. Once taken apart you WILL see damage and/or have rattles. Just my opinion.

So true. Our 2012 pano roof was creaking. They had to remove the headliner. Needless to say, what they did remember to put back was not right. I had to take it back 3 times. It was bought back without working seat belts because they couldn't get them back right after removing the headliner. But that's not why it was bought back...

Re: Dash Issue - New car on lot

Having them replace the dash pre-purchase. If I'm not happy with the results, I'll walk away. It looks like there is a mixed bag of folks who have had dashes replaced and are happy and others that are unhappy.

I'll be sure to go over it carefully as well as take it for a ride and listen carefully

Thanks for the advice

Re: Dash Issue - New car on lot

Why bother ... Just order yourself a new one from the factory, it will come with a window sticker with your name on it. This is not a rare collector's edition isn't it? You are spending a lot of $$$ and it will bother you if it is not perfect.

Unless you are getting a killer deal on it ... but than why are you getting a deal on this one jeep and not on any one.

Prise marks everywhere. Centre console, around wood garnish, Uconnect surround, vent trims, etc. Minor scuffing on almost every painted plastic part, and in fact one of vent trims had road rash from being dragged across the workshop floor. The replacement pad was really lumpy... I'm told because they ship them rolled up.

Re: Dash Issue - New car on lot

There was a time lapse video posted here a while back, but I can't find it. It showed two people working together replacing a dash on (IIRC) a Grand Cherokee. They seemed to do it by the book with a lot of care. If you could find the dealer that employs these two, no problem. But what the video showed isn't what you are likely to see at most dealerships.

If anybody can find the video, please repost it.

Here's part 1 from an older Jeep.
