Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

You're not kidding! I generally start mine before I get into it to get it cooler and when I don't I realize it's hot. Having one of those devices puts it all into perspective though. I just received a sun visor for the shield today, I'm going to start using it when I am leaving it sit out for a while. We'll see how that works out. Still thinking about your device though. 187 is some pretty serious heat.

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

What will that do to the Leather dash on the overland and summit models? I can't imagine that is too good for it but I also would like to assume jeep took that into consideration.

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

That was after the door was opened for about 10 seconds. I'm only guessing but I would think about 5 degrees or so warmer before I opened the door.
I was amazed how hot it gets.

And (some) people wonder why leaving kids/animals in the car is now a criminal offense!

Whether or not from the heat, some have had issues with the leather dash. Jeep seems to be pretty good about changing the dash for the first three years. It is not covered by the extended service contracts.

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

This is why I tinted my windshield. I do realize that after a bit, it just doesn't matter as it will still heat soak but for shorter stops and while moving to get a little wind cooling on the glass I think it helps.

This is my first leather dash and I plan on keeping it looking good for a long time!

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

I highly recommend this Covercraft sunshade with the bag. Takes just seconds to mess with. This with the pano shade makes the interior temp much more tolerable afer baking in the parking lots for hours on the 90+ days.

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

For people looking to protect their dashboards, or really any interior trim exposed to the sun i've had very good luck with 303 Aerospace Protectant. They market is as a "sunscreen" for interior trim (Vinyl, rubber, leather, plastic)

I can't give the best long term review on it because i usually don't keep the same car for more than 3 years. But for the cars i've had i applied it weekly to all interior trim exposed to UV rays and everything has stayed looking brand new. I attached a link where i got it, but you can find it on amazon too.

^this...been using 303 for years! Ya know that weber grill cover that gets brittle and cracks after 2 years...last one I bought, treat w/303 1 time each spring...going on ten years now, still looks new.
Also great for tires. No wet look and brown stains..just flat rich black rubber

Re: Dash temp after sitting in the sun

I've used 303 for 8 yrs on one of my cars without problems. Didn't know it was for leather though. I'll check that out.
