Day time running lights

I noticed I don't have daytime running lights on my Laredo E. I thought that was a mandatory standard on all new cars a few years ago?

They are required by law in Canada. The main reason we get them on cars in the US is because a manufacturer doesn't want to have two different systems to stock and install. GM was the first to do this and advertised it as a safty feature when in actuality they were just saving money by not having two different light switches and harnesses.

Personally I hate the things.

Yeah they suck. I am swapping mine out with LED bulbs so at least they don't look so nasty yellow.

I know on most GM vehicles that if you depress the parking brake pedal one notch it will turn off the DRL's and not illuminate the brake light.

On the new GM P/U trucks there is a way to turn them off with the light switch. I wish the Jeep had this or some way to permanently de-activate them.

I read another thread (do a search) that specified the exact fuse to pull to deactivate DRL.
I personally like them and studies have shown their safety benefits. I also prefer full lights on all arround and just not the fronts....just my personal preference.

In the late 70's or early 80's it was mandated that motorcycles have the lights on always for better visibility. They figured it made it easier for you to see a motorcycle. I agree with this 100% being a rider for 30+ years.

With the advent of DRL's on cars and trucks, I feel it has lessened the effectiveness of this for the motorcycle. It has once again made it harder to see a bike in traffic. When you are looking at a wall of vehicle lights coming at you how can you distinguish between a 2 ton car and a 600lb bike. The car driver is much safer enclosed within the 2 ton machine. Therefore more people are likely to just pull out in front of it thinking " what the heck, I can make it".

Just my opinion on DRL's YMMV.

I found this description on disabling them in another thread:

"Just disabled my drl's today. Pop the hood. Find small fuse box top 3''x2" left side engine bay just in front of hood strut. Pop top and there are 4 square plugin blocks. Unplug the two on the right side and your done. This option is not doable in software with Starscan. Must be done as previously stated."

I like having DRL's....but my current vehicle has a way to turn them off. I like them off on occasion....like when I am hunting. Please tell me that I can turn 'em off on my new Overland.

Well guess the LEDs are not shipping from manufacture until the 3rd. So might be awhile.

Yeah separate 3157k type bulb. Kind of strange because it's the bulb type jeep has used in tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights in the past. This one is reverse facing so the base of the bulb is facing forward so most of the light is thrown backwards off the reflector and then forward of the car.

I have canceled my order with XENONDEPOT, ordered over two weeks go and items have not shipped. Voicemail box is continuously "full". Very slow to return email and overall bad customer service. I did finally reach someone today.

Notice to all potential buyers:

They do NOT stock LED lights they are shipped directly from manufacturer. Basically they act as a middle-man take your order and money and they order from factory to have shipped directly to you.(commonly referred to as drop-shipping). According to their website all my bulbs were in stock. Not the case turns out some are backordered 2 weeks but it took 2 weeks for them to inform me that they are backordered.

I try to support the vendors here but am unwilling to compromise on customer service. I know steve just went to SEMA and mike was filling in answering emails, but as a business owner I can say that just as my clients expect me to be available at all times I expect the same things from businesses that I buy products from.

search on Amazon the replacement LEDs (same putco brand) to go in place of the DRL are a buck cheaper on amazon and if you are a prime member you get free second day air shipping. I placed an order and will let you all know how this one turns out.
