6.00% for MD taxes and then they had to add an extra 0.17% for Fairfax County tax so 6.17% total.

I was also quoted $333 for registration/license fees.

Re: DC metro area group buy

Your tax and any registration fees is based on the state of your registration/residence, not where you buy it.

Re: DC metro area group buy

Maybe
I bought in Ohio and live in Florida. I had to pay Ohio tax and Ohio has a reciprocal agreement with Florida so when I registered my Outback last year in Florida they honor the tax paid in Ohio. I assume that the monies somehow get transferred back to Ohio.
Received a temp tag to get the Outback to Florida and has no issues.
Very much a state by state situation. Not sure what happened to me would happen in other states.

I live in New Mexico and have purchased from California, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. In each state it's always been the same, pay tax where you register it. Thank goodness, it's only 3 percent in NM. Probably the only thing good about this state!

There is a county tax added here, .17% or thereabouts.

Re: DC metro area group buy

Yes, "state agreements" notwithstanding, in general "your" state is going to want the tax, etc., usually as part of the registration process. Some states tax differently, too, when it comes to "credit" for trades. In PA, the value of the trade is subtracted before the tax is calculated. That's not true everywhere, AFAIK.

That said, I'd not hesitate to participate in a group deal like this if it's still available in the future when I'm ready to move to the next one. The dealers around here couldn't make a deal if it hit them in the you-know-whats...

Correct. Did not buy a vehicle through the Group Buy but have bought cars in Fairfax County before and titled in MD. Fairfax county has a LOT of high volume car dealers along Rt 7 and elsewhere. They're the only locality I can think of here that charges this overage on a vehicle sale, but I suppose a lot of people buy cars in Tyson's and title them in MD, etc and they want their piece...

Are you saying that everyone has to pay the .17% tax (Fairfax County where Koons is located?), regardless of where they might register & tittle the vehicle??

How does that work exactly? I'm sure the tax rates aren't the same.

When I bought in NY, w/a temp tag, and registered & titled my Jeep in Florida I paid sales tax, tittle, and registration fees for the county I live in In Florida! You shouldn't have had to pay out of state tax for a vehicle registered in Florida!
