NOW...to my experience with the process at Koons. As some of you remember, I had a not so great experience with Koons back before we got the 2011. After all the great things everybody said I figured I would give them another shot.

The verdict? I'm 70% happy. First let me say that Nader is great, 100% happy with him. The group buy pricing is great, if you're going to pay cash or finance outside of the dealer (or even finance inside the dealer) you cannot beat it. The issues came when it came time to deal with the trade and to deal with the lease. I had two offers in writing on the trade one from a Jeep dealer, one from carmax. Koons was over 10% below those offers. I was able to get them up somewhat, but not all the way. I was able to get them up enough to where the tax benefit of trading it to them made it just about break even vs selling it to Carmax...but it wasn't easy.

Second issue was the lease. Money factors offered were not at all what are available on the internet insofar as what the base rates from Chrysler are currently...and any attempt to get them to honor the base Chrysler money factor was a non-starter, despite having printouts from web sources in writing...and any attempt to get them to show me the money factor they were offering me in writing in the sheet from Chrysler was denied. That to me is the most frustrating thing...what reason would you have to refuse to show the customer what MF you are saying is printed out on the sheet from the bank other than because its not what you're offering the customer? Again...I've leased many times...and have been shown that binder many times.

We negotiated on these points for about 3 hours...and some of it was pretty heated. Total time spent at the dealer was about 4.5 hours.

So...in the end i did the deal because they had what I wanted and I liked Nader, but what I wound up with is a lease I could have gotten from any Jeep dealer because the special pricing in the group buy was eaten up by the inflated money factors and lower trade value. So I came out fine...but I do not have any kind of a special non-matchable deal on the lease.

So...leasers and traders beware...come armed with data and negotiate as good a deal on those points as you can...in fact we overheard one of the salespeople talking to another new car buyer just conversationally about how much more lucrative their used car sales are because they have a nice markup. I can attest that this is the case.

In the end though I'm happy, love the truck, didn't get screwed just don't have as good a deal as I was hoping to have...what I have in terms of lease payments is almost exactly what I was quoted from Darcars of Rockville...

Were you able to get the $1,000 conquest rebate?

I was eligible to get the $1,000 loyalty rebate and got that, since I was going Jeep to Jeep I didn't qualify for the conquest rebate. Same $1,000 though.

Re: DC metro area group buy

SW03ES,

You've confirmed what others have suggested - trade-in values aren't that good, lease rates aren't either at Koons. You're like me in that you do your homework when it comes to leasing. If you don't, dealers WILL take advantage. I think that's primarily why leasing is seen as "bad" when it's a VERY good way to finance under certain circumstances.

Glad you ended up with a nice Jeep at a good price. Max Steel is a REALLY nice color. I like that it's on the "blue side" of gray. The Indigo interior is my favorite. In fact that Jeep you bought would have been mine if it had ORAII.

Congrats on the new Jeep! Glad your experience with Nader matched my own.

Excellent! Sounds like it's gonna work out. Let us know how your inspection goes and if you ever find out what the hold-up was. Truck driver take a long nap somewhere along the way or what?

I'm sure that's a huge relief! Now you definitely deserve a hassle-free pick up. Best of luck with your new baby.

Oh yeah, it worked out fine. Yeah the color is great. It was the first time my wife had seen the color and when we first drove it it was dirty and she didn't love it, but once it was clean she LOVED it.

Re: DC metro area group buy

SW, glad you got your new JGC!

Yea, it's been reported over and over in this thread that leasing isn't advantageous with this group deal. A number of folks who were going to go to VA ended up leasing locally for better terms. As to the trade in, it's not surprising in the least that the trade values are not generous. When there is a huge discount on the new sale, there's no wiggle room in margin and dealers are going to offer what they know they can wholesale the trade for and generally not a penny more. Nature of the beast...

Congratulations on the new Jeep! Sorry to hear that your buying experience was not quite as good as most people, myself included, reported.

Also, all Overlands come standard with QT-II, regardless of engine choice (if you are confused as to what I am talking about, your signature says QT-I).

How does one find about these rebates? Are they available in addition to the Koons group buy price?

And while we're on the subject - where does one find invoice pricing?

I just forgot to change that from my old Jeep, thanks for catching it!

If you look the car up at TrueCar you can see available incentives. Right now there is $1k conquest (meaning you came from a competitors vehicle), $1k loyalty (meaning you had a Jeep previously), $1k on the Hemi, and then theres $500 military, my trade association got me $500...etc other stuff you may or may not quality for.

All the rebates can be used on top of the Koons deal.

Invoice can be found at Edmunds.com
