Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

You need to make sure the purchase date is correct for warranty purposes too...

Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

Generally a lurker here, but I saw this happen before and the case is simple since the vehicle is not paid for, signed for and it sounds like you haven't even seen it. Wow!

You do not own the car yet. If the dealer assigned a vin to you for last month they had no right to do so and that's their problem. Did someone actually say "Jeep thinks you're driving the car?" If so I'd be on the phone with Jeep tomorrow. Post back with what happened and I'd love to know who the dealer is. I'm in Croton NY and looking to buy, but I don't want funny business. Let's stick together.

S.

Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

Get your money back and run away. Theres always another Jeep dealer. If they are giving yout his kind of run around and you dont even own the car yet, imagine what could happen one you sign that paperwork. Say you need something warrentied, what kind of crap would they give you about why it isnt a warrenty.

Run, find a new dealer.

If they said Jeep thinks you are driving the vehicle, what kind of damage control would you have to go through if during the swap the vehicle was damaged in an accident, fell off the truck, anything.

Run. Get your money back and run.

Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

It sounds like his dealer is trading with another dealer to deliver a vehicle out of existing inventory... not a new order. In order to get the vehicle the two dealers would have to go through some kind of vehicle swap or transfer of ownership. I think the details surrounding this dealer to dealer trade is what makes this situation more complex. In any case, I am sure a monthly quota is involved.

There is nothing fancy about a dealer to dealer swap, Dealer A buys Car B, Dealer B Buys Car A from one another. Dealer A sends a driver down in the swapped vehicle with the keys, check to pay for vehicle B and title. Picks up car from Dealer B, along with keys, title and check paying for Dealer A for there vehicle.

They slap a dealer plate on it and get the vehicle back as quick as possible. There is no reason they should've registered the vehicle in the customers name or anything. It happens a few times a day at my dealership, there is nothing special about it all, plain and simple.

Most dealers will require you to put a down payment on the vehicle, this is more so just to show that you are serious about buying a car and not just about test driving something else. Until you sign on the dotted line for your loan, transfer registration and insure the vehicle, you can walk away at anytime. The vehicle is NOT yours until you sign on that dotted line and take FULL delivery of the vehicle. If they are saying Jeep thinks you own the vehicle, they pulled some shady paperwork crap on there end and i would reccommend calling Daimler Chrysler Customer Care and explain to them whats going on. They will not stand for it.

After posting that I was unhappy with the situation today on their Facebook page one of their managers contacted me and assured me that this will all be handled and is "not how they do business."

I'm not comfortable, but I will still give them a chance to make it right. So for now I'm not looking to hurt them before having another dialogue tomorrow. If they've wasted my time and are screwing around I will certainly identify them.

Thanks for all the feedback. This is a great forum!

Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

Well, the dealer came through in the end without any further issues. I may have overreacted a bit!

They took great care of me and I am now the happy owner of a Black Forest Green Overland with the Summit grill, V8, Adaptive cruise and saddle black interior. The BFG looks amazing in the sunlight....a stunning color with the Summit mesh grill.

I'll post pics and more on the deal shortly. Thanks again for the support.

I don't think so. I'd say without your facebook-post, it might not have been as easy for you in the end..

I agree with GCO and don't think you were overreacting in the least. While I'm glad that things worked out in the end, your process wasn't clean on the dealer end...something was amiss.

At any rate, 'looking forward to when you post the pictures of your beautiful new chariot! Congrats!

Re: Dealer denies rebate?!

In defense of the dealer, while they initially told me I may not be able to get the rebate, they also were willing to place a call to Jeep with me from the dealership. So instead of a flat NO they were willing to see what could be done and in the end it worked out great. If they were trying to keep something I don't think calling Jeep makes sense on their end.

On top of that they even knocked off the labor charge on installing the Summit grill.

Bottom line: The Overland is incredible. I test drove everything from the Q7 to the X5. I could buy what I wanted and the Overland was the clear winner. The reason for this? Most other luxury SUV's are really just road cars while the Jeep can truly hack it off road and in deep snow. Only the unreliable LR4 competed and while I dig the Toyota Landcruiser, it's just too big.

Now let's see how well it all holds together.
