Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

Go to that dealer that has it. I get why they're doing it, but if that's the case, it won't cost you that much in gas to drive there and back with the new car.

The trading dealer can get the holdback. This is from negotiating with my dealer yesterday. They were willing to split the holdback (or even hinted and giving it all away) after they would have had to get the vehicel I wanted from another lot. Pat at Fields Jeep also confirmed this. It just depends on the dealer they are trying to get the trade from, but they can always go to the next dealer with the same build you're looking for, one that will give the holdback.

Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

I have never paid extra for a dealer trade vehicle, other than a simple and reasonable transportation fee for moving the car from wherever it is to where it needed to be. On my Summit...it came from a dealer on Long Island and there was no charge for the sales dude to go up there and get it. (he took some other Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicle up there that the other dealer needed) Yea, I had 110 miles on the odometer at delivery, but I had exactly the configuration I wanted which was nice since there were very few Summits in Winter Chill hanging around at that point.

A $3000 difference on an identically specified vehicle is eye-opening...and would also cause my feet to move, too...toward the door.

That is true, however, your dealer will get the holdback on the vehicle he is trading. It's a wash.

My father does this. Just so happens to be a Jeep dealer, score for me and my soon to be ordered '14! Think I'll be doing the same thing in 30 years.

and yep, mom helps out once in awhile too.

Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

I pick the cars, then the price, which then determines the dealer I choose. I have never bought more than 1 car from any dealer. Go to the other dealer for the deal.

Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

When I was shopping, I was told by the first dealer that it would be difficult to transfer and would take 10+ days. They lost my sale since I went straight to the dealer that had the Jeep and bought it from them direct.

Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

My dad did that for a while after he retired. We lived in North Dakota where the dealerships aren't very close to each other so he would usually end up driving anywhere from 10 miles to 100 miles each way.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I could understand that he could offer a better price for the one he had on the lot, but $3000 difference? I was thinking maybe $500 difference.

Did you ask for the $3,000 dealer bullshit rebate?

Any and every dealer can swing a trade with another dealer (especially if it is in transit).

I've never heard of one charging you a fee to do it either (especially if they are near to each other).

Hell, I have a Ford dealer swapping a Black Explorer Sport for a Red one just so that I can see the Red in person...

I haven't even said I want to buy it at all (and 90% sure I won't).

Re: Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

I got my 2012 GC LTD from Pollard in Boulder, CO. They had to truck it 300 miles from a dealer in North Dakota ... and didn't charge me a dime! $3k is a RIP!
