I have yet to offroad in my 4x4; who cares? I'm most certainly not going to buy a minivan Some of you guys are way too concerned about the whole "jeep is 4 teh offroadz!". Give it up man, the wrangler is for offroad and everything else is for a different market. The GC is a great vehicle in it's own right. It looks great, drives great, size is great etc.

Not everyone needs or wants to offroad, I didn't by my Jeep because it says Jeep on the hood, I bought it because I like the package. Comments about minivans and "mall crawling" are extremely odd and show a complete lack of understanding about cars and target markets. If I drove up to a customer in a wrangler I'd probably get shown the exit.

At last someone besides me voices an opinion about the lack of respect the guys with 4WD show to those of us that decided we did not need 4WD to accomplish what we wanted. The GC is a great all around vehicle but doesn't "have" to go off road just because it is a Jeep. Flame me....I can take it....

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

I agree it is mostly about paying more for a package which then takes away your 20" wheels for the 18" wheels.... Doesn't make sense to most vehicle buyers unless you really do off road stuff.

Wonder if Jeep could somehow design it so 20" wheels would be more off road capable? Or perhaps that would be more of a tire thing?

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

As you can see from my signature, they exist, but I ordered from the factory, and I'd have it no other way. For me, the 18" wheels was definitely a tire thing. I had it off road when it was two weeks old. It's a Jeep!

That almost exactly describes how I use mine. Throw in our steep driveway and you have the reasons I've always gone AWD.

They both said that no one wants that option and one sales guy said he has never sold one with that option. How can that be true? It's a Jeep for crying out loud.

I bought a 2014 Overland with ORAII last month in Orange County, CA (not exactly off-road country), and there were at least 3 other Overlands there with that package also, 2 in my same color. I guess it just depends on the dealership.

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

I'm in the process of buying a new overland to replace my 2012.
In the east coast an overland with V8 and an off road package cannot be found.
I'm ordering a 2015, figured I might as well wait and get to the next model year........

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

The good news is that things like skid plates and tow hooks are easily fitted after-market...

I'm another one that really doesn't have much intent for off-road activity outside of an occasional beach ride while on vacation and dealing with dirt parking lots at horse shows. 85% of my driving is highway. The only reason I have the V8 is for towing our small horse trailer a few times a year. (Diesel wasn't available when I was buying or I'd have that) I do, however, appreciate the fact that I CAN do the off-road thing if I decide I want to.

I suspect that a large percentage of the tens of thousands of JGC buyers each year are not off-road oriented but a higher percentage of forum enthusiasts are so inclined. While the vehicle has the capability of doing some pretty heavy off-road fun with the right setup, it's also a really nice general purpose ride. There's a reason that mini-van sales have waned and some manufacturers have dropped them...SUVs and CUVs have taken over as the go-to vehicle these days.

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

2014 with ORA II package and HEMI.... I actually refused to buy a jeep with 20" wheels... Am I the only one who thinks huge wheels are stupid? 18" wheels are already pretty big in my opinion and I was GLAD that the ORA II came with the 18's which I actually like better......

And also, I have taken my Jeep wheeling a couple times already, both times finding a way to break stuff.... "yes....yes I did" , the first time it only had 800 miles on it....and I was running through live rivers, and rock crawling... its just a damn object people, they can be replaced!

But the fact that it had "JEEP" on the front, I had NO CHOICE but to make sure the thing held up to its reputation, and ...It did.... Only damage done was from my own mistakes, getting use to a new machine...

My next Jeep, will be another Overland with the ORAII package.... I would love a Summit....but not until they offer the ORAII package, and yes I know, its mostly skid plates and such at that trim level, and the tow hooks, etc... but those TOW hooks and skid plates say Jeep.....
