It almost seems I might be better off getting a set of 18s and then swamping them when I'm hitting the road for a long trip.
I've replaced the latitudes with Michelin MS/2. They are good enough for mild rocks, mild mud, mild crud, and are one heck of a highway tire.

If I were young enough to walk home further, I'd consider getting dedicated OR wheels with something with supermud/rock capability, but there aren't that many places around Denver or out in Colorado/Utah/Nevada boondocks that really need them, and doing artificial mud crawls just hain't my thing.

Just need them to start making it in the stock 265/50R20 size now. No real good choices for an all around tire like that in the 265/50R20 would need to change size in the 20 inch which people dont often want to do.
Michelin makes a very good tire. I ran LTX AT's on previous GC's I've had. I was very pleased with those.

I also really like the Cooper Discoverer AT3's. They worked great on my last Jeep.

Unfortunately, like the Michelins they are also not available in the 20 inch OEM tire size.

I don't disagree. I also don't understand why they don't make QDII or ELSD by itself options with the V6.

Dealers generally don't order ORA for their inventory vehicles. If you want it you probably will have to order it.

Dunno why Jeep insists on not providing decent OR tech on either the 20 inch Summit or even the SRT.

Had a 2010 range rover. The tires where the worst ever. Every time I went off pavement had to buy a new tire. Even the jeep tires are better then the RR low profile tires.

I don't think I would put the summit in the same class as the SRT concerning off road ability. summit comes standard with the exact same drive system/suspension (QD II with ELSD and Quadra Lift) as the overland ORAII. The bolt-ons from the factory are the only thing it doesn't include (skids, hooks, 18s). skids are an easy bolt on, factory hooks can be put on if you don't mind cutting the hole in the plastic as Jim mentioned. only other item is approach angle which overland has an advantage with.
I do agree with you on not understanding jeep reasoning though. If summit was only meant to be a mall crawler than why give it the same best top of the line drive system as overland, but then leave tow hooks off lol, stupid. give it the ability to go off road but them if you get stuck oh well. you would want hooks for snow or sand the same as you would for more challenging off roading. the other weirdness with jeep logic is if you buy ORAII for the overland you get an 18 latitude?? what is with that? you would think that they would put an actual off road tire with their highest level off road package not a highway cruiser tire. 18s are of course better off road but just not a dramatic difference between an 18 latitude and a 20 fortera.

Jim,

In overland trim you have to select ORA II to get quadra drive, without it the spec shows select drive.
And without QD there is no ELD .....

Purely a marketing decision on the part of the Summit...it's not marketed for off road, pure and simple. The SRT is a highway rocketship and has a suspension optimized for that...off road would likely be painful!

No you don't. Quadra-Drive II is also available as a standalone option on the Overland (I would know because that's how I optioned mine ).

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

I added ORA I to my Jeep by purchasing it with the tow package and then adding the skid plates, front tow hooks, and the all important "trail rated" badge.

I understand why dealers stock what they do but my beef is with Chrysler for only selling the hardware for mounting the front tow hooks with the stock black hooks.

Want chrome or red hooks? Buy the black hooks AND the chrome or red ones. I confirmed this with Just4Jeeps.

So I have black tow hooks and Chrysler lost an upsale. F*CK YOU I'm not buying two sets of hooks to get a custom finish.
