Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

Jeep is getting wimpy and waaaaayyyyy too many people are making their GCs gansta.

Let's slam a 4WD SUV to the ground so it can't even clear over a small speed bump

Re: Dealer says no one wants off road package

It's the power of having choices...Jeeps can be nearly anything you want them to be. If you want the "gangsta" look...go for it. If you want the "chrome lux" look...go for it. If you want the heavily modified, off road crawler look...go for it!

I wanted chrome. Maximum steel + chrome trim looks really tight.

No way am I gonna blow $ ~180 on essentially a set of bolts and then another $ 210 for chrome.

Obviously only ballers and high rollers are intended to ride on chrome unless it's factory ordered.

Black on black still looks great, but nothing says "I could take this sweet ride offroad--but I won't.", like chrome. ;-)

Once you diehard off road Jeep fanatics realize they are moving further and further away from making the GC meant for going off road, you'll understand that making it "gangsta" and lowering it an inch actually allows you to still clear speedbumps (!) and get better driving performance. Adding a lift to these is like moving a step backwards from what they've been working on in the past few years and there's a reason you can't drive around town in QL mode above normal ride height. And just take a look at how sad the Trailhawk concept has gotten compared to last years. If anything, it became more like the SRT with styling than doing anything to improve it's capability off road.

To each their own, but I'm sick of hearing people condescendingly explaining anything that isn't a lift or mudding mod as something "ghetto" or "gangsta". You just sound extremely ignorant.

I totally agree. Just don't diss the "chocolate" and expect no one to chime in.

Well, that is a stereotype and so perhaps I agree with your intolerance of stereotyping. However, have you ever seen a Porsche with a lift and mud tires? I haven't, because it's not fit for purpose. A WK2, however much you want to say has changed from the past, is made to be capable off road. So by modifying it to be not capable off road doesn't make much sense to me. Why buy something not made for that type of "driving performance" and try to retro fit it to have that. Why wouldn't you buy something up front that is made for the specific performance you seek?

Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia from Moscow (2008)

There are better examples you could've named, but I hear where you're coming from.

I do agree, it is a very capable vehicle off road, but a lot of cars are just because the AWD technology is so good. The main advantage it has is ground clearance more than anything else. I just feel like if you want to really make these things beasts like the original WKs can be, you really should buy one of those, or go all out and really commit to making a custom lift above 2", to more like 4". Or better yet, just get a Wrangler.

I understand people want to have their cake and eat it too (or ice cream in this case!), as did I when I first got my Jeep, but the more I've had it, the more I've realized how great it is on the road and I don't want to jeopardize that for what will be mostly for looks (in my case) and not function with off road mods. So the idea of slightly lowering the Jeep to make it better when I'm coming down from the mountains all the time, sounded like a just route to take. I will still go camping and to the lake on the fire access roads, still gaining from it's capabilities off the pavement.

And if they ever release the 2014 Diesel Trailhawk II in Blood Orange, that 4jeepdiesel has as his avatar, I'd say they are really interested in making the GC something to consider for real off roading. But I'm not holding my breath.

Why any one would buy a Grand to lower it and put stupid big rims and Tyre's on it is beyond me
Maybe they have been watching too much american TV.
Each to their own but i don't want to look at them its like seeing a very pretty girl with face peiceings and tattoos
Why would they spoil their beauty like that
