I agree. However, it's not just the $45K Overland.....not many people off-road the WK2 in general. Jeep continues to move more and more toward on-road and away from off-road with each new generation.

There are really only three affordable midsize SUVs with true off-road cred these days. 1. Wrangler 2. 4Runner 3. Xterra. That's it. If you want a vehicle that will stand up to true offroad punishment, but one of those three. You'll get true body-on-frame chassis, low range transfer case, and a live rear axle.

Here's the problem though....the current generation 4Runner is uglier than sin, the Xterra is soon to go away, and the Wrangler is so far toward the off-road side that it pretty much sucks on the road.

When I first read the below, I didn't believe it. After this thread...I'm guessing it is true.

"With the Outback, specifically, similar 2013 J.D. Power data shows that the tall wagon has the highest use on unpaved roads compared to its entire competitive set. Some 34.7 percent of Outbacks are taken off paved roads, compared to its next-closest competitor, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, at a distant 21.1 percent. Trailing further behind those two are classmates like the Volvo XC70, Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Toyota Venza and Audi Allroad."

Sorry man, I didn't think anyone on this board would be that sensitive. The topic of this thread is that a dealership told someone that nobody wanted to order the off-road package. It was my OPINION that too many people changed the GC look and function. A couple years ago I wrote a mini-essay on this board saying why the Grand Cherokee was the ultimate vehicle for all types of styles: I shall paraphrase my previous post:
You can leave it stock,
You can lower it and bling it out,
You can jack it up and put a snorkel on it and do mega-off roading
you can make it classy and chrome it out
you can de-badge it and make it a non-jeep.

I also stated that they all look awesome and I appreciate them in their own way. It's kind of like motorcycles. I ride a Harley but I don't hold it against anyone that rides anything else. As long as they're not pricks about how they ride.

But again, it is my opinion that waaayyy too many people slam it to the ground. I can have an opinion just like you can so get over yourself.

The first dealer I went to had the attitude that no one needed or wanted the trail rated versions. He was upset when he found that I had bought a trail rated version from another dealer.

Right now, I'm in Portland, Oregon, but I got here via trails in South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho and I plan on hitting some more trails before returning home in ten days.

Hmm....but what do they mean by "off paved roads"? So are they saying that a dirt road is, by definition, off road? I guess technically that's true....but I think that there's a difference between driving down a dirt road or really taking a vehicle off road.

Completely agree! Though if only 1 in 5 GC's ever see unpaved roads, I imagine the percentage that really go offroad is even smaller.
