I'm glad you called another dealer and he is a little more friendly. In fact, you may want to ask him to check the record for your VIN to make sure the other dealer didn't put some nefarious note in there, especially since you have MaxCare.
Ahh, that guy. Good idea, PM'd him (or her)

Re: Dealer says Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control not compatible

Thanks Andrea, I hope you can set this all right.

Because it is complete and total BS, and the dealer needs a slap on the wrist. These poor service experiences are not only painful for the owners, they are a drag on the Jeep brand.

Your originating dealer is incompetent of the highest level. While activating the trailer tow harness the originating tech may of failed in the correct installation procedure and because of this they are blaming the brake controller as the fail, rather than admitting their fault. Find a better FCA service shop.

I've used the same brake controller in my Jeep with the factory tow package without issue. Unless there is a problem with your particular controller being defective or something, I don't see how the controller could cause the problem you're having.

It's a Summit with a Factory hitch. There is nothing to have been botched.
And even it was why would activation suddenly be a problem after 9 months and 7K miles.

I also suspect activating a hitch is either On or Off and can't be botched.

There is nothing to "activate". The GC is pre-wired for a controller and all you're doing is tapping into that.

Re: Dealer says Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control not compatible

I'd guess the earlier comments about the dealer looking or a cop-out are correct. As far as I can tell, the only connection to the brake controller from the car is the brake switch and power. Beyond that, the P3 controller has an internal sensor that determines the decleration of the vehicle and sends a proportional signal to the trailer brakes via dedicated cabling to the 7pin connector. The pre-fabricated cable that is called out for the Tekonsha P2/P3 exactly matches the pin-outs of the supplied pigtail from the factory. Too many people are using the P3 for it to be an incompatible device. I checked with my dealer and they said it's absolutely OK for use.

I managed to get the error codes from the dealer.

Re: Dealer says Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Brake Control not compatible

Wouldn't that "brake system control module" in the report be the actual vehicle brake control system? As already noted, the P3 has no buss connection to the vehicle computer. It gets power and an indicator that the brakes are being applied. The inertial aspect of it judges the rate of deceleration, etc.
